[Support] Please Can The Community Get Clarity On Mines?

Hello,

Apologies if this has been raised, I have looked for it, but cant seem to find a thread.

Could we please have some sort of proactive message regarding the mining system on LoTC? They have been down this entire week and it is beginning to impact on the game (this is my opinion, but I know it is shared by others). I have sought clarity from the mods on this, at best I have been told they will get back to me, at worst I have been told 'they are down' followed by a prompt close of the mod req.

For a game centered around building and mining, lacking the latter seriously reduces the enjoyment factor. It also impacts the economy as prices get driven up and player access to ore's is floored. Many of our clans major building projects have been undermined (lack of both materials and efficient tools) and I am certain less people have been playing as they wait around for the mines to be fixed.

The lack communication around the problem is making it worse, so I am posting here with the hope it encourages a robust response from the support team and some sort of timescale might be applied to it's resolution.

Many Thanks,

Elder Ithil

Since I'm sort of the mine person, I'll explain the process:

  • First, I must create a multiverse world. This causes little to zero lag and takes a few seconds.
  • Next, I have to decide how big the mines should be. If they're too small, you guys mine through them in days. The bigger, the better, but also harder too make.

Next comes the World Editing:

  • Generally, I can't work with any edits larger than 5,000,000 - 10,000,000 blocks, else I'll crash the server or risk a rollback.
  • Because I'll be causing lag with almost any editing size, I have to stay up till 3-6 AM my time to attempt any progress. This is when the fewest amount of players are online, which means I'll be affecting the least amount of people.
  • Because I wanted the latest mines to be so large (as to last us till 4.0), I have to spend hours doing small edits and restarting the server. Also, since it's so late, I generally can't do more than an hour or two of work at a time.

tl;dr: I try to do them as fast as possible, but multiverse being broken, lag, potential crashes and rollbacks really slow me down.

I could probably do them in 1-3 hours, or at least get the more difficult world editing portion done if we could take the server down for a bit and risk rollbacks. They've been down for maybe 3-4 weeks now, 75% of that time because of multiverse portals being broken (which would also explain the lack of boat fast travels)

The lack of mines suck, but I also don't want to risk pissing you guys off by rolling back a few hours/a few days worth of your building.

I was aiming to get them out by Saturday, but unless we do an "emergency maintenance" and let me work for a few hours, I'm not certain they'll be done.

There hasn't been lack of communication; I've explained the situation a dozen times at least, I just haven't made a formal announcement, which I guess would be the issue.

Ever,

Thank you very much for your timely and robust reply. I know I speak on behalf of many people when I say we really appreciate all the hard work you are putting in and the unsociable hours required to make the changes. I am glad that there is a plan in place to progress forward and we have some sort of understanding now of the issue. Again, I think a public announcement may be particularly well received as frustrations begin to rise.

Personally, I think taking the server down to make the changes and fix the multiverse issues would be the preferred course of action. I'd rather have a finished product with the key features than a server with limited player functionality. Although RP isn't necessarily affected by these issues the backbones of the communities are hindered and things are getting worse (as mentioned economic and build programs are being severely damaged). Again, so long as the reasons are explained I am certain it would have general popular support.

As I am sure statistics are showing peak and non peak populations on the server are being impacted,in part, one would assume,  to do with the issues above.

I really hope correcting action can be taken soon.

Thanks Again,

Elder Ithil

Mhm. Well, I'll get the opinion of others as well as ask some of our senior techs about the risk of rollbacks. If we can't do a 'dev mode maintenance', then I guess we'll just have to deal with some late-night lag. Hopefully I can get them out by Saturday morning, but no promises; I hate letting you guys down >< Hopefully you guys will enjoy the 500,000,000 blocks of stone, ore, precious metals, and perhaps dungeons? ^^

By all means, I'd expect counsel to be sought from others. I speak on behalf only of the people in my circle of LoTC friends, but I am sure many others agree from the general tone around the TS and other groups we come into contact with on the server. Nothing wrong with a little late night lag if its worth the results!

Not letting us down, in fact you talking to us here is quite the opposite of a let down!

Look forward to all the delicious cobblestone! :D
