How Do I Create A 'stable' Character?

Groups are generally the best for keeping characters around. Lone wolves don't normally last that long (although, I admit, there are a few exceptions). Finding a group of people to RP with constantly really helps. 

 

Anther suggestion is start from a child character. It's essentially giving you a blank slate, and you'll get the chance to try them out before actually committing. Watching your character grow up is just really neat, in a creepy sort of way.
