Style Wings?

Hey LoTC! I have a silly question. Say I wanted to create 'wings' out of wood and some feathers just for looks, that practically did nothing. Would it be aloud? Thanks!

  • Even if they're "useless" and are just for aesthetics, wings give off an impression of holiness and relevance to heaven (or hell, if bat wings or something similar), and given that they're quickly becoming commonplace, they're no longer allowed unless approved

Would this include wings that are obviously rustic and fake? Not even Icarus-type wings, just leather tied to wood planks.

 

These obviously don't have any relevance to heaven, or hell for that matter. Simply something that a lunatic might wear.

In direct response to the OP of this thread, unfortunately it would not be allowed. The lore regulations prevent any and all wings from being RPed without approval from an Administrator (such as myself). The reasoning that they might be related to heaven or hell as stated in the lore regs is the IC reason, not the full reasoning behind it. The more dominant reason that led us to add the restriction in the first place was that wings were becoming common in RP, which seriously decreased their factor of mysticism. However, before there was at least the individual RP boundary that players set for themselves that was akin to "I want wings, but they wouldn't make sense for my character so I'm not going to RP them just for the sake of it". Contrarily, if fake wings were allowed then that boundary would no longer exist, as adding/removing fake wings would be just as easy in RP as wearing a hat, thus actually making the situation worse than before. We could say that you can have fake wings, but then we'd have to grant everyone the option to RP fake wings if they want to out of fairness, and then the problem would return despite our best efforts.

With that being said, as was mentioned previously you can still get direct approval from an Administrator to use them. I will warn you though, you will likely not have much luck with getting acceptance. As of now, I only know of 2 or 3 players that have permission to use wings, and those players have all proven themselves capable of RPing them properly AND given us proper undeniable evidence that their wings are essential to their character. It may seem like an incredibly strict restriction for something that could be seen as a minor aspect of RP, but nonetheless it was added for a good reason and we will be sticking by it, so I apologize if this is an inconvenience.
