The Treebeard Clan

History

 

     The Treebeard Clan was originally founded by Gloin Treebeard, the last son of Urguan. The Treebeards were named shortly before their ancient exile in Aegis, where they took to the forests and became what are known now as Forest Dwarves.

 

     After their exile, the Treebeards lived peacefully in the forests of Aegis. Living as nomads, they went from place to place, finding refuge wherever they could. Some Treebeards chose to split off from the clan as forest life did not suit them, and so they returned to the mountain with a new name. Others chose to build homes and farm wherever they saw fit. Those remaining took to the magnificent Elven forests, where some took the path of Druidism. 

 

     As time went on, the clan scattered throughout the world. Treebeard blood often mixed with that of their mountain-dwelling cousins, thus resulting in many Half-Cave and Half-Forest Dwarves emerging. This made it nearly impossible to track down those remaining of the pure bloodline. Time continued to go by, and the Treebeards seemed to go with it.

 

     Slowly, more Treebeards have begun to emerge from the world. At first, there was Saviticus, Druid of Spirit. Although he struggled with his family name and down the line became an Irongut, he soon returned to his true bloodline and took up the name Treebeard once more. Before he disappeared, in the islands of Elysium and Kalos, another Treebeard had emerged. Thudrin, once thought to be an Oakheart, found records kept by Saviticus assuring he was not. Thudrin followed the path Saviticus drew for him and also took to Druidism, becoming the Druid of Oak. Few others have recently popped up and claimed their family name, only to wander off and become lost once more.

 

     A common misconception is that all Forest Dwarves are Treebeards. Although most Forest Dwarves will have a connection to an ancient Treebeard ancestor somewhere in their family history, the Treebeards will only acknowledge one another as part of their own clan if they are of pure Forest Dwarven blood. This means that they must directly descend from the original Treebeards and not have mixed Dwarven blood down the line.

 

Culture

 

     The Treebeards are not known for their phenomenal prowess in combat nor do they excel in being merchants. The Treebeards are simply known for trying to get the most out of life, living in luxury and making sure their mugs are always filled to the brim. The Treebeards show great respect and compassion for one another, ready to lend a helping hand in whatever the activity may be. Although they will never forget their ancient history with their mountain-dwelling cousins, they still show respect to them, even if they fail to return it.

 

     Many Treebeards have been masterful at lumberjacking, farming, woodworking and especially drinking. They enjoy casting out a rod during a hot day, or sitting by the fire at night to tell stories. Not all of them take to it, however many Treebeards have become Druids.

 

Appearance

 

     The Treebeards share the same traits as all pure-blood Forest Dwarves, simply because they are them. The Treebeards often have fairly large noses, along with either green, brown, yellow or orange eyes.

 

     The Treebeards commonly have long brown and black hair, fading to gray or white when aging. Other colors such as dirty blonde have been seen however, such as in the case of Saviticus. The Treebeards tend to keep their beards short, either by shaving or simply genetics.

 

     The skin tone of most Treebeards ranges between that of a tanned human to an earthly brown.

 

     Most Treebeards are actually quite slim compared to their mountain-dwelling cousins. The reason may range from naturally a faster metabolism, to a general increased amount of exercise. Their height is unaffected, though, still ranging from two to four feet tall throughout their lives. 

 

     Treebeards often dress as adventurers and wear whatever they see comfortable. Those that follow the Druidic path tend to take to robes.

 

 

Religion

 

     The Treebeards have always been strict followers of the Brathmordakin. However, as Druidic ideals flowed through their culture throughout the many years, the Treebeards have come to follow a variant of the Brathmordakin that accepts the Druidic deities known as the Aspects.

Short Biography:  A typical forest dwarf, Durdin as he came of age and left his family sought his way in the world. Stumbling upon the Druidic Order in Elysium he believed he had found that calling. Meeting Saviticus and Thudrin during his instruction. Upon his attunement though as the Turtle Druid, the young dwarf felt lost. Confused with himself, he accomplished what he sought to achieve but what now? As such he has been missing from the order ever since as journeys across Anthos.

Appearance: Dirty, hairy, generally unkept.
Short Biography: Makoro's grandpa Mak always told Makoro stories of mythical fairy rings, that he'd heard as a boy. The mythical signs from the Aspects brought good luck, and ensured safe travels. Makoro was so captivated by these stories, by the time he'd reached the mature age of twelve he had bid farewell to his parents and grandparents, and went out in search of a fairy ring. It wasn't until a few months later had Makoro found a fairy ring, and went inside of it. He was so entranced by the feeling, he became rather addicted to it, spending all time that wasn't dedicated to hunting to being inside of the fairy ring.  However, one day when he was out hunting, a rampaging boar went through the area, and tore the fairy ring up.  With the fairy ring gone, insanity slowly grasps Makoro as the feeling the fairy ring bestowed him continues to be ripped away, as he scours Anthos for another fairy ring to restore the feeling.

Short Biography:  A typical forest dwarf, Durdin as he came of age and left his family sought his way in the world. Stumbling upon the Druidic Order in Elysium he believed he had found that calling. As Thudrin restlessly searches through the records handed down to him by Saviticus, he finally stumbles upon notes of the Amneks, a family of Treebeards who split off from the main clan early in Treebeard history. Thudrin smiles, pinning Durdin not only as a fellow Druidic brother, but a cousin by blood as well.

Days later, Thudrin continues to search for word of the Mossrots. Finding a particular document about a Mak Mossrot being one of the original clan before splitting off to form a family, he pins Makoro as new member of the Treebeards!

Appearance:Tan skin with a brown beard and nice brown eyes. He himself is somewhat small for a dwarf but doesn't really care about it.
Short Biography: Garrion was like many forest dwarves who lived isolated in the woods until he became to come of age. He met some mountain dwarves on the outside of the woods near old Lenfarthing who took him on a journey to Uraugan. After that he began to be very close friends with two members of the Stormhammer clan. Now he even plans to open a alchemy shop somewhere due to his knowledge of plants and materials. Even though he may have forgotten some of his old way as a forest dwarf, he still yearns for the woods and often takes pilgrimages there.

Short Biography: Dolmith was raised in the forests with his mother, hunting and carving for a life and selling his wares in Lenniel. He was somewhat reclusive and spent a lot of time in the forests, never integrating into Dwarven society. Dolmith was one of the last ones to migrate to the Fringe, only leaving his home when the constant attacks became to much. Foraging and hunting has been next to impossible in the Fringe which has led him to try and make contact with the rest of his kind.

Character Name: Bofthal Treebeard

Character Age: 35

Appearance: Typical Forest Dwarf except for the red hair and beard.

Short Biography: Content with his peaceful life in Kal'Arkon, Bofthal worked hard with his clan to help their trade, but he was without any special ambition. His clanmates often called him out on this, saying he was not fit to be a Treebeard if he didn't aim for the skies of luxury and comfort. However, after witnessing the massacre committed by the unknown beast, he decided he wanted to help in some way. He thought long and hard, and eventually came to the conclusion that his best bet would be the Druids, with his inclination towards helping others, so he packed up, and left his clan's luxurious abodes to find one of the Druids' Groves.
