Graphics Card Issue Assistance

 Share

Recommended Posts

I have recently been experiencing issues with my GPU. A while ago, it stopped detecting my primary video card, so now I'm using my onboard. I had a power surge earlier today while the computer was on. It turned off because of this, so I booted it back up only to discover that it was detecting my video card again. There was another power surge later in the day, and I rebooted to find out that it was no longer detecting my main video card.

The initial problem with the GPU was that it wouldn't send a signal to my monitor, but the fans on it would power on.

Any help as to what the problem is would be appreciated.

No idea on how to fix the problem at hand, but if surges are this common for you I advise you invest in a surge protector

If your card is properly seated but it fails to be recognized/read/whatever you want to call it, by your motherboard you should do a few things..

Check to see that the card is in fact properly seated. (Make sure the thing is all the way in and not hanging off in some odd way.)
Check all power connecters to the card. (Some Graphics cards do require an actual connection.)
Look at the Expansion slot and Card for obvious damages.

Nearly forgot! Does the computer recognize the device at all?

Beyond that, I can't do too much for you, beyond developing teleportation for the sake of fixing things.

No the computer does not recognize the device presently. It did after the first surge, and then another happened (they're not usually frequent) and it stopped recognizing it.

Moved to the Great Library. It shall be sorted into appropriate category shortly.
