A Star Breaks

A stout dwarf, skin black as coal and odd eyes, a different color sparkling in each socket. He leans on an hammer almost as big as he is. He exhales mist and curses, small bits of frost seek warmth in his thick beard as he adjusts his resting stance in the eternal night of the Deeproads. Picking himself up from his chilled slumber, the dwarf fumbles around in the lonesome dark for a moment before bestowing light to the forgotten caverns. Holding a small dimly lit lantern in a gauntleted hand, the stout man treks on through the Deeproads, puffing like a piece of Dwarven machinery, pushing through the cold, subterranean path. 

 

What seems like forever passes by as the determined dwarf forges onward through the caverns, his destination unknown, but determined and hope flare from his eyes every step of the way. At the sound of shifting rock he freezes, evaluating his surroundings and narrowing his eyes and hushing the flame of the lantern to better adjust his eyes. The sapphire and topaz iris focus upon the rocks and recognize an unnatural break in the wall. A small, excited, grin forms on the dwarf's face as he sets his lantern down and takes his hammer off and runs towards the odd break, slamming the hammer into the wall and shattering what apparently was a thin layer of stone. The force of the hammer's attack throws it and the dwarf through the now broken stone and into an expansive cavern full of glittering spires that poke out of every place possible, even forming a pathway to a humming energy centered over a pit.

 

 

Recomposing himself, the dwarf twists his beard around as he surveys the area, noting the abnormal crystal formations and odd entity above the pit. Shuffling forward, the dwarf approaches the odd entity, a wispy, luminescent ball of argent energy. Peering into it, the dwarf's eyes widen, seeing a world unlike that of which he has never seen before. More peculiar, he notices dwarves that look like him. Thinking it over in his head he grins cockily and leans on his hammer, chuckling to himself.

 

"So..dis is where deh went eh? Looks loike meh wanderin' is ovah.."

 

With the bravado of a cocky young soldier, the dwarf leaps straight into the energy and vanishes without a sound. Within seconds, the dwarf reappears inside yet another cave, tumbling over a pile of rocks and landing with a resounding thud. Grumbling as he rises, he grins as he sees light and exits the cave, laughing happily as he finds himself standing on the mountains of Thales.

 

"Starbreakahs! Korumm is 'ome!"

"I think he intends to break the ice here. No matter, we shall see if he's a star or if he's just hot air soon enough."
