HISTORY

House Blackwell, it is a name which could easily inspire some form of distaste in those of noble blood. Though not for lack of want, it is to be said that the house seems to have been formed of commoners and men of a lineage not suitable for nobility. Although this may be true, they are there, and that bit is known.

House Blackwell was formed on a drunken meeting with Henrik, the King, and the first patriarch of the Blackwell family, George. Knowing of George’s service in military, and his blood relation to the old House Greymane which would allow some form or consideration of nobility to be possible. In the kings drunken stupor, he granted the Blackwells land and the title of Baron as well as some form of prestige, and it seems as though many years later this style of negotiation has turned out well for their family as a whole.

Blackwell had quite a bit of trouble at first gettings the wheels turning, they helped a bit with military service to The Order of Saint Lucien, and had a small levy force just barely big enough to be considered worthy of nobility. Soon this became a slightly larger number and they started to finally make a name. House blackwell finally got recognised as a full Noble House When the Duke of Northal resigned, through advice from his son. George Blackwell became a vassal of Herendul, and gained countship of the Norfolk-Ager region. Even with this, he was gifted more: He became the grand commander of the brotherhood of Northmen, an organization which was considered especially prominent during those eras and vowed itself to destroying the forces of evil in the north. After a few failed and successful defences the order had made a small but known name. They fought in the siege of the north and had a large part in destroying the strong beast which appeared after everyone though the battle was over. This siege however drained the order of most of their men and was forced to be abandoned, but soon replaced with the Reformed Winterguard.

In a horrible sadness, rather, blunder, he got leprosy. He died about a year later, on the second sun of 1463. His son, Oliver, inherited the ownership of the house and the family that came with it. He had married his bride, Elifi Stafyr, exactly a decade before. Oliver assimilated the Northmen into his own order, the Winterguard. It became the main banner-force of Herendul, and Oliver became the commandant.

After George’s death, Joseph, his brother, went ‘missing’. Soon after, the son of Joseph, Jon Blackwell, was on the field preparing for an armed conflict when ruffians went up to him and beat the living hell out of him, murdering him in about fifteen minutes and stealing all of his belongings.

Around the same time of all of these travesties, the worst of them all occurred to the youngest link... Elfi Blackwell-Stafyr, the bride of Oliver, went missing soon in relation to these events and was later discovered to have commited suicide.

A few years afterwards, Lord Oliver Blackwell died during the Great Plague Outbreak of the 1460’s after reforming the Winterguard and becoming Marshal of Herendul.

His son, Thomas Blackwell took over, but as the house, losing two well connected members, began to go on a decline, fear struck the hearts of a few members and even thought they would lose Noble status. However James Blackwell who still had the ties to keep the house going, found an amazing gift which he calls a blessing from the creator. James had found a will from the late George Blackwell which wished for James to take control of House Blackwell upon the death of his son, oliver. James had much worry that this would leave the family separated and in conflict between people who supported James and people who supported Thomas so he kept it quiet for a while and then quietly went with the help of his closest ally Corbett Vancleef to Borris Carrion the third who granted them both a hearing, but James did not tell Thomas what it was for, and they just went to the hearing. Borris decided that he wished for Thomas to know before it started so they went into an area to speak where it was agreed Thomas would abdicate and James would be granted the title “Lord of House Blackwell”.

Vassalizing under the Duke Richard de Bar, Blackwell once again regained a county. They also gained ground in the Order of St. Amyas, becoming a trusted part in it.

But, eventually, the stresses of military life caught up to James, and his lazy family members were of no help to him whatsoever. Unable to stomach the stress any longer, he resigned, leaving the eldest son of Thomas Blackwell, Nicholas, to inherit the Lordship; in turn, Nicholas would keep James as a close advisor on his council, in addition to his father.

Nicholas also managed to gain the new Small Council title of Lord Deputy during this time, assisting the Lord Bailiff as a prominent helper in the Office of the Bailiffs. He had become the first Lord of Blackwell to wield an administrative position in the Imperial Government.

It wasn't long after this that Nicholas faced some of the darkest times in Blackwell history. With the crowning of the new Emperor, Tuvya Carrion the I, the nobility was reordered. As the shattered Imperium Tertius was slowly being repaired by the new Emperor, however, the liege of the Blackwells vanished without a trace.

But Nicholas was not like his father; he was neither lazy nor infrugal. He knew just what to do to save the House.

With their liege presumed dead and Juvanos falling into disrepair and abandonment, Nicholas knew that Blackwell would not last long. No longer bound through feudal oaths to Juvanos, Nicholas appealed to the Emperor. Seeing his request fair and just, Emperor Tuvya accepted House Blackwell as minor vassals under him, granting them a manor for their landing in Petrus.

Now Nicholas continues to repair the House, slowly bringing Blackwell to prominence yet again.

The Shield of Blackwell

Held by the Lord of Blackwell, it represents the protector of the House. It is their duty as lord to make sure they stay both moral, and physically safe. When Edward Blackwell left the Greymane family to become an independent and more moral house he made this to symbolize such. The shield bears the Sigil of House Blackwell.

The Long Sword Of Blackwell

This is held by the first Knight in the generation of the family. It is to be given to each generation. If the one Knight passes and no one has been knighted yet from the next generation the Lord of the House has the duty to store it until another squire in the House has been Knighted. The sword is supposed to represent the most experienced fighter of the House and reward him for such experience.
