A reverberation was felt all around the cavern as Verin awoke, sliding out of the Throne he had sat in for near two years. His armor was rusted, ill maintained. He looked around to the dank, empty chamber..yet it was only the emptiness that gave him cause for alarm. In his shrill, metalic voice, he spoke: “Alexandros? Elbent? Speak, my brothers.” There was no reply from the hall, and the voice echoed outward. He stepped forward, looking at the crude lift which was stationed in the centre of the ruin. With a heavy hand, he began to turn it’s wheel, the device going upward.

Darkness. It was the night, and there was not a light to be seen near Embermoor. He turned his head, yet again pounding around, it was only hours later when he managed to find the relatively close by settlement. He pounded on the gates, and was yet again greeted by silence. He waited.

Two hours later, some disposable cultist saw him, opened the gate, and let Verin inward to the settlement. He looked around, yet again he could feel the hollowness of it all, beside the Cultists’ eyes which were trained on his back. He looked at the door which led into the city, and in lieu of having the Cultist open it, he smashed forward and beat it down, continuing inward.

The emptiness continued to creep into his mind as he looked about, nothing to be seen, nor heard, nor felt nor comprehended. It was true nothing. Verin continued onward, into the city, staring at the opened gates which lay bordered by a stream of lava pillars collapsing from the cave above, as if waterfalls.

The darkness loomed, and in it he saw two figures, barely bordered by shadow, unmoving, dormant. Armor glinted. The emptiness was broken, and one of them from their long slumber stepped forward, and looked at Verin. “What are your orders, my lord?” The emptiness returned, and Verin knew what had happened.

Alexandros was missing, or rusted and melted down in some Dwarvish hovel, and Verin Etitlan once again took on the mantle of the Dread Lord.
