A Question To The Clergy

The newly appointed acolyte, Tarcell Othaman, addresses the members of the Clergy gathered at the Cathedral to discuss certain topics of the faith. He clears his throat before stepping forward. Bowing slightly to the High Pontiff, he begins his case.

"Greetings good Clergy of the Church,

I come to you today to speak of a tradition based in Orthodox religion. The tradition states that clergy can carry weapons for self defense and holy fights that do not draw blood. Approved weapons include maces, clubs and for some reason as far as my knowledge goes, axes as well. The first part of my question is whether this is true for the Church of the Canon as well.

The second part of my question is the reasoning behind such a tradition. Does the Creator wish for his clergy and followers to be protected better, or does His Almighty wish for us to batter infidels rather than cut them. I have fought in many battles myself and can attest for two things. A mace kills just as easy as a sword, and a mace is much slower in parrying weapons. Why should we continue a tradition that could lead to the deaths of more clergy and followers of the Church? Personally, my view is to let Clergy have weapons if they are needed in order to defend themselves and the Creator's followers. Value in life should be put higher than value in bloodshed."

Hamish, the Adunian monk pipes up.

"To be a true devote to the Creator and the faith that has been outlined, we are to be our brothers keeper. Tainted and dark men may roam the world, but to raise arms against them in the physical realm is un-acceptable. The slaughter of indefels in the land of the undying solves nothing!"

He stands up, grumping about.

"Countless years, the clergy has requested the wholesale slaughter of non-humans in the name of our faith with preaches peace. The Creator is universal, and therefor created all abliet the dark creatures, an exception to the rule of non-violence. But, to the point.."

He itches his beard, drawing a sword from his belt.

"I am not orthodox persay, but our best weapon is our words and enlightenment. Of course, when dealing with creatures of evil.."

He thrusts the longsword forward sharply.

"It would be wise to let men of god carry something more effective then a club in this day and age, no?"

"I agree, our best weapons are our tongues in which we guide those to the Creator, yet physical defense and even crusades are needed against dark creatures in the physical world. If we must do so, should we not to our best ability?"

Kristoff raises up from the crowd of clergy man. "I understand your worries...But...Is a sword really needed? I only carry a small hiden dagger, and barely use it..." He looks over to Hamish "I don't belive a long sword ia needed"

"By these traditions, even a dagger would not be permitted. I do not mean a giant sword but daggers, shorter swords and knives are more convenient and better for defense."

Kristoff looks at Tarcell. "I'm not an Orthodox...I'm a Canonist, and the old Ruskan Orthodoxy, isn't a thing anymore...Atleast I've never heard of any Ruskan Orthodox priests around. But about the weapons, in my honest oppinion, we should only be allowed to go around with a dagger, a short sword at most, we are men of God, not knights."
