Eheh, while this is true, I'm not too keen on making it entirely nexus based.

Meh

I can say for certain that the problem is not coding the magic plugin, all spells are pretty much already coded.

The problems are...
  • How to give the magic to the players.
  • How to evolve the magic with time.
  • How not to break lore with the magic.
  • How powerful the magic should be.
  • What debuffs the players should have by having magic
  • A lot of people are going to get annoyed by something in the plugin.
  • Players are going to find the most abusable, or strongest spells and only use those.
If you can answer those things, then the magic plugin would be released! Good luck with finding answers to those, because they are very hard to fix problems.

[edit] Oh ye, even with the hero plugin all these problems would exist, so a way to fix them has to be made.

Oh forgot one problem
Receiving the final "Go ahead" from the admin team.
Problem not because of the need, but because of the time it takes, and that each admin might want fixes, which means another vote or whatever the admins do, which means more time once more.

I can honestly say I know the answers, well the answers according to my belief's but this isn't about you or me or about even one section of the community, its the whole that's affected so it should be the whole that answers. And there lay the solution, threads regarding implementation, how to evolve the magic plugin with time, debuffs. And once a general consensus is met on the subject polls go up, and than the most valid or the most supported gets picked. Of course with a few iterations from our Admin-Team. But I don't see official thread regarding it, nor do I see official polls, and one can only speculate when being left in the dark.

After all is said and done it's majority that we're trying to appeal to.

I can't help but feel distrust for the Technicians, and I can only assume some mutually share my opinion, the magic plugin has been debated, talked and even given general date lines, that for everything they're worth just don't happen. I understand they're players too, here to enjoy the community as anyone else, but some accountability has to be held. When as the main problem, or as I see it is their over ambition, to build what seems to be a mountain of work, only to be left almost there and never finish, and another Technicians ambitions leading him to redo it in his envisioned form.

I don't know why people are so quick to jump on the rumor bandwagon without verification about said rumors. All I heard from everyone was that the Nexus Magic plugin was scrapped, and a few weeks ago when I asked Telanir himself he reaffirmed that the magic plugin was never scrapped, but that he instead had to put it aside while he focused on making some money using his coding skills IRL. Ask before you jump to conclusions, people. The only reason Kowaman is developing a separate magic plugin is because he was hoping to complete his plugin before Nexus Magic was released due to Telanir's inability to be active. By doing this, he would prevent the players from having to wait any longer than they already have.

That's in peoples nature, when they're left in the dark. And when something that has this much momentum it's to be expected. Official updates could've been made, avoiding the situation entirely. When the answers are on page five of a post can you expect for people to know.

Enjoy the server for what it's worth, and if you don't enjoy it either try to make it more enjoyable or find something else that you enjoy. LotC isn't for everyone, and if it isn't for you don't try to make it something it isn't meant to be. Now, I must get back to spending my hours trying to make this server better, if you'll excuse me.

That's a two way street, and don't misinterpret my word's as insult or threat, but the server will change hands and will change face eventually, as you've seen LOTC has changed, the playerbase evolving for the worse or better and this is to be expected. And the idea of what it isn't meant to be is one of interpretation, there may be black and white print to whom owns it but we've seen LOTC is not a fixed entity.
