The moon lingered in the night sky, casting an eerie glow onto the stone road a quiet place with few people walking upon the cobbled path this late at night. A cold wind was blowing outside engulfing those walking on the road who would seek out refuge from the small tavern nearby, the light of which shone like a beacon to those in the darkness.

Mordeqai slowly walked through the shadows, each step seemingly harder than the last as he trudged through the night, carrying the burden of his failures upon his back. Like those that came before him, he to would seek refuge in the tavern that night.

Ignoring the stares of those around him as he entered the humble abode, he would slowly make his way to the furthest seat from the door, slumping down into its embrace. Exhaling deeply he would signal for the young waitress, handing her a large sack of coin with a solemn look in his eyes, his voice a hoarse gravely tone.

"Your strongest please.. and keep them coming.."

With a nod the young waitress would depart, coming back shortly after with five mugs which she would place before Mordeqai.

And so it began.. the drinking of his damnation.

For nights this would continue, Mordeqai returning every time to the same spot. Each night the young waitress would bring him his drinks and watch with a worried expression as he drunk away, passing out at the table before being tossed out into the night to sleep on the ground by the road.

On the sixth night Mordeqai returned, the waitress would walk over to him, placing a hand on his shoulder, her voice a warm melody to his ears.

"Why do you do this to yourself?" she whispers to him.

Mordeqai shakes his head, downing another mug "Because.. i am ashamed of my past and to scared to face  what lies ahead of me and walk the on the path that calls my name.."

The conversation between them is short, eventually the Waitress leaves with the empty mugs from the table, watching as Mordeqai stands and heads for the exit, she gives him a small wave.

Mordeqai stumbles into the night, slightly drunk as he makes his way down the road into the darkness.

"Time to face my sins.."
