So my brother went on the server today and couldn't log on, he asked me to this for him because his google is slow.

So he couldn't log on any server he read up on it and it said all severs are now required by Mojang to have 1.8 to stay online he was wondering when you were going to update to 1.8 as the server is outdated and is still on 1.7.9.

The server is down due to maintenance/work done to it.
Or so I infer. Which is most likely happening, due to this happening a couple times in the past.

This would be highly illogical, as several server programs and plugins have not yet update to 1.8.
