In the event of a soldier or person acquiring an injury follow these guidelines before Amputation, because Amputation leads to a greater risk of infection. Using thread and needle to close wounds is not suggested on field by basic medics, surgeons should preform advance wound care.

What you need:

Rope, Hot Water, Wine, Sugar or Animal fat, Clean Wash Cloth, and Bandages.

Method:

1. Stop the Bleeding.

2. Clean the wound/Infection Prevention

Stopping the Bleeding

Wash the wound with water, then wine. If bleeding heavily try to take a staged bandage and press it firmly over the wound, if bleeding stops wrap the wound. If the bleeding continues tie off the stump of the limb, or the area proximal to the wound. After bleeding stops wrap the bandage. If blood continues to soak through the bandage, rinse the would with hot water or wine and apply a hand full of sugar/animal fat to the wound. If bleeding continues to persist try to tie the wound off a second time, and continue to hold pressure, while elevating the injury above the chest.

Cleaning the Wound/Infection Prevention

Once bleeding has slowed and clot formed follow these steps.

1. Remove Bloodied Bandages

2. Rinse would with warm water, dry with clean rag.

3. Rinse with wine, dry with clean rag.

4. Wrap would with clean dry bandages.

5. Repeat 1-4 every 2 hours.

Keeping a wound dry is the best opportunity to keep the wound clean. Amputation should be considered only if the limb is not considered savable or falling off. The main focal point of basic wound care is to stop bleeding, and clean. Wounds may require surgery, but these methods are meant to allow the person to survive until they can be seen by a surgeon. Clean wounds are easier for surgeons to see what is wrong.

Advanced wound care and books on surgery will be available at request.

((These are ancient Greek/Roman/Persian mostly forms of treating wounds. I tried to make it time accurate)).

"Huh... Never used wine before on a wound, but it's better than cutting the limb off like the other book suggested... You learn something new everyday I suppose." Andraesh shrugs, returning the book to the Cloud Temple library.

((I didn't know that wine was historically used like that, the more you know.))

((wine was used by ancient greek surgeons to clean wounds, of course they did not know what bacteria was, they discovered it by trial and error. I'm a paramedic and a pre-med student doing research in a micro bio lab so i do alot.)).

((The alcohol in the wine was the active part in keeping the wound disinfected. That's the main reason they used wine.))
