A Thesis on Prayer

[!]

Deacon Jude enters his dimly lit room after a long day of work and study. He makes his way over to his small spruce pew for his evening prayers. As he prays, the Deacon seems puzzled. He then finishes his prayers and stands up. He makes his way over to his desk and does his daily reflection. As he reflects he takes out a piece of paper, dips his quill into a blue marble inkwell and begins to write.

“Prayer, the most common action in any religion, the foundation of our relationship with God. Why do we pray? Do we do it because we feel like we have to? Do we do it because we need something from him? In today’s day and age many of us do only pray because we need something. We ask God to give us what we want, instead of asking what he wants. We need to realize that prayer should be used as a way of thanking God, not asking him for something. Now, I am not saying that it is terrible to ask God for something, but I am saying we should not only pray for something we need. Also, I have noticed this in myself as well, we often find ourselves just saying the words, not actually reflecting on them. Some of us just want to get it over with, so they speed through and say that they have done their prayers. We need to take the time to not only speak, but to listen as well. We need to use prayer as a way of giving thanks to God. Prayer is one of God’s many ways of communicating to us. We also should not only pray for ourselves but to pray for others as well. There are several ways that we can pray. We can pray in silence, song, and in word.  But, does God really hear and answer all our prayers? The answer is yes, indeed he does. Even though we may not think he answers them, the reality is that he does. God does answer all of our prayers, he does it in his own way. So we must open our minds and hearts to his word and his love and allow him to speak to us as we pray. We must also remember to not only pray for ourselves but for others as well.

Thank You and God Bless you all,

Deacon Jude

"Prayer; the most basic element of our faith and any faith. It allows us to meditate and explore ourselves spiritually, severing us from worldly issue. It is most righteous and necessary in any good civilization." mutters the Pontiff as he reviews the new thesis.
