He looked through the visor over the farmlands with a suspicious gaze. The quiet plagued the area. The morning rain had left a rolling fog throughout the small farming town, obstructing the vision of his usually keen eyes. He lifted the visor, moving from the countryside to the main road. His faint motions were heard sharply, the grit of the gravel grinding against his leather boots.

His gaze rose from the quiet fields to the darkened forests. A moment passed of silence, his eyes piercing the fog for any slightest danger; there was none. The sounds of nature were dulled in the rain's fury, watchman alone gliding in that deserted landscape.

A figure slowly emerged from the opposite side of the Leuvaarden, clad in light chain and leather. He wore a tattered tabard with a rather paltry bow. Looking up beyond his kettle helmet, the two men nodded in confirmation. A cheery voice rung out over the calm landscape. “Oi! Ey, Caleb, ye’s spooked me!”

“Har! All clear ‘ere, Nob.”

“Aye, same on tis’ side.”

The two watchmen began to remove their light armor as the sun rose, melting away the previous mist that had been. Sounds of the commonwealth rolled throughout the plains that the plentiful Savoyards lived within; sounds of laboring peasants and bickering nobles.

The sun shone its brilliant rays across the fields, where the peasants began to work at the fields. Joyful whistles danced across the wheat patches as multiple workers sung in unison, igniting another day of work. From the previous day, more hovels had been added for the influx of peasants.

The armor of the watchmen hung freely on a pole in the fields, a ward to mischievous folk and a source of courage and safety for the peasantry. A sense of progress drifted throughout the air, rejuvenating spirits and bolstering strength.  With Farmer Nob’s initiative, glorious labor was in the air.

Glorious labor will continue to be in the air.
