An Imitation Poem

It was bloody and brutal,

The long White Rose wars,

Our struggle, futile,

Malinor abhors,

Every day we wondered what was next, if we should sail to distant shores.

So few guards on duty,

So few of the brave,

Yet they help, such beauty,

All swear, ‘We shall save’

You all called each of us incompetent, yet all we had, we gave and gave.

Horns, heard in the distance,

Were they friends or foes,

Friends, we hope, with assistance,

If they are enemies, who knows,

We shall stay, we shall fight, this city we shall safeguard even as our own blood flows.

The Forests, silent,

Sadness, evident

The Valah, ever violent,

Their Emperor, decadent,

Machines of war seen in the distance, we mulled if doom was imminent.

Enemies at our door,

Marching side by side,

Armed with spears, blades, and more,

All of you, run, hide!

Out of the city, run, go! You must leave before our forces collide.

Thump! The ram against the gate,

The sound of our end.

Our commander spoke straight,

“These beasts we shall fend,”

“We shall have no help, no one but each other. Your actions I commend!”

The gates broke down, hell followed,

Like rats, beasts shuffling,

Desecrate our ground hallowed,

Swords raised, tumbling,

They kept coming forth, death incarnate. We had no choice but to fall back, stumbling.

Our peaceful city, lost,

taken by mankind,

Such is war, the cost,

And so, it declined,

the citizens did not trust us. They had lost their precious peace of mind.

It only got worse from there,

So much death and fear,

The ever present despair,

The citizens jeer,

Still we stood tall. We swore to this nation we would forever adhere.

((Just a lil' poem I had to imitate for an assignment. I decided to imitate H.P Lovecraft's "The City"))
