Trapped In The Deep

Strung up, the dwed hung from his wrists bonded higher than he could stand. Every passing second was inconceivable agony, the weight he bore on himself seemingly getting heavier and heavier as he got weaker and weaker. This once proud Ireheart was reduced to nothing more than the cold and damp abode he was locked in, drips and scurries of rats were the only things telling him he was still alive. The cell was not designed for a dwarf, his feet only just touched the ground, which made the pain that bit more unbearable. His overgrown hair was all one would see if they passed the cell, it draped over his face and covered half his body. Of course nobody came to the cell, once a week he would receive an hour to run around and a weeks worth of stale bread and rotten cheese. His palms were black with grime and dirt, his feet blistered and cut and his once black and orange uniform was faded and ripped.

Many thought he was dead, they cared not to look for him, but he did not hold it against them, in times of such adversity sacrifices had to be made. Luck had run out for this prisoner, he could feel death surrounding him like a vulture as he got weaker. He was losing hope, however much he reiterated in to his mind that he wasn't. Three years. He didn't know what the day was, he only knew he was due to be taken down from the shackles soon, he had almost completed his punishment, and all he longed for was to lie down, to hit the cold floor and relieve his arms from the excruciating pain they had held for the last four days.

A cackling Uruk laugh plagued the hallways as a torchlight got noticeably closer. An Uruk and a dark elf opened the cell, the dwarf not lifting his head for them, they walked up to the dwarf laughing and taunting in a malevolent manner "Enjoy your sleep?" The elf chuckled in his nasal voice, he grabbed the dwarf's hair, ripping upwards violently and revealing the skinny, pale face of the prisoner. Disappointed, the elf looked at his Uruk, not getting a response from the prisoner. "Hmm looks like we've finally beaten the insubordination out of him". Both laughed evilly and preceded to unlock the dwarf from the wall, chaining his hands together.

The Uruk placed a metallic tray with a cup of muddy water and bread, it was odd, before they had just tossed the meals on the floor, never shown the courtesy of a tray. He recognised the tray however, it had sat in Lori's house before the city fell, only the sides seemed like they had been serrated, the dwarf had a keen eye for metals, as he was a smith in his old life. For the dwarf it was clearly a sign. The two guards turned to leave, "Oi" the Dwed said quietly, to which the two turned back around abruptly. Seemingly in a single movement the dwarf kicked the raised corner of the tray to flip it in to his hands and used the wall as a springboard to jump towards the Uruk, slicing the sharpened tray across his neck. Stunned the elf drew his sabre, but it was too late. Both guards lay slain on the floor. He unlocked his shackles and armed himself.

The dwarf looked at the tray, he knew someone hadn't forgot, he knew someone remembered.

Out of the cell he paced, the sweet taste of fresh air teasing him as he climbed a staircase towards the surface. The light was blinding, he remembered the view clearly, his office used to be here. He placed both feet on the tray, and leant forward down the snowy peak. Freedom.
