A Flame In The Dark

The room is dark, lit sparsely by torches embedded in the walls of the chamber man kneeled before the obsidian rectangle his head bowed his hands resting on an Lorraine's cross of avanite embedded into the altar. To the side is a pile of clothing and various personal effects that belong to the kneeling man. Opposite of the kneeling man is a man encased in a shell of black armour.

 

The armoured man looks down at the kneeling man. He taps the cross on his chest twice, creating a clinking noise to attract the attention of the kneeling man. The kneeling man looks up, dark bags hang below his eyes he is obviously fatigued from a lack of sleep. The armoured man moves the index and middle finger of his right hand in an inverted U shape. The kneeling man nods slowly exhaling steadily. He begins to speak a fanatical tone shading his words.

 

"I declare in the name of the lord my eternal unwavering faith in his plan. I pledge my soul to his service from this day to my dying day I shall serve his cause and his cause alone".

 

The armoured man nods as the kneeling man finishes his declaration. He points at the pile of possessions then pushing all of his fingers together facing the ceiling followed by a quick outward expansion. The kneeling man nods moving his possessions on top of the altar. He pours some lamp oil onto the pile before turning to collect the torches that flicker along the walls of the chamber. Returning to the center he adds the torches to the oil covered pile igniting it suddenly.

 

The armoured man nods handing the now standing man a key before turning and exiting the chamber. And so the man stood alone with his flame, in the dark.
