Crackle crackle crackle . . .

Sang the lit torches within the Palace throne room, their flames dancing softly in the quiet lit room. The throne room looked so much more enthusiastic and calm at the thick of night, a place of true peace and relaxation.

Crackle crackle crackle . . .

The sky was covered in clouds that night, the moon masked behind a subtle haze. It were nights like these that the shadows were able to stir and play freely, for evil knew only the mindless would be out tonight, to be picked off for their wicked enjoyment... Darkness has always plagued the realm of man, it is why Allah gifted us light to aid against the darkness. But tonight, the light of Allah was blocked out by the darkness. This was the perfect time for the shadows to move.

Cackle crackle . . .

Faiz sat within his small crude chair with a book propped above his lap, his head lowered as he reads quietly to himself, the dim sounds of the crackling torches filling the room. There was so much going on lately that he barely had anytime to himself or to his family, the realm of Khalestine always needed him and he tried his best to give even in his old age. Tonight was his night to sit and read however, to gain knowledge for the remainder of his future that lay before him. Perhaps tomorrow he can spend his time with his family?

Pop crackle crackle. . .                                    creek

Darkness is everywhere the light cannot touch, and the shadows used this to their advantage. It was their time to strike, as Faiz sat their unsuspecting with his book laying atop his lap. A shadow begins its descent from the inner balcony from Faiz's right blind spot. It crawled down slowly, only the faint shine of light acknowledging its presence. The torches within the room took on a new more eccentric dance, as if attempting to warn Faiz of the intruder... Faiz was oblivious however, and just continued to read his book completely unaware of the thing that now perched itself atop the main Throne.

Crackle . .  Snap! crackle crackle. . .                        Vwooooosh~

Most of the torches within the room go out except for a couple upon the walls and a few atop the chandelier, causing the throne room to enclose in a new found spooky darkness. What could have caused this? Immediately after the torches go out, two new figures could be seen emerging from the thick shadows ahead of Faiz, approaching eagerly to benefit from this newly welcomed darkness. The figure behind Faiz darts downwards from the throne towards the back of Faiz, his right arm stretched at a 90 degree angle with a menacing sharp dagger held within his cupped fist. Faiz had no time to move, no time to understand what was going on and what was about to happen. Before he could even lift a muscle, the dagger was already impaled deep within his neck, sinking in quite easily. The man quickly withdraws the blade from his neck as the body then collapses upon the floor face first-

THUD CREEK !

The body laid there motionless as the man looks down upon it, standing right next to faiz's toppled wooden chair.

"Too easy." said one of the men ahead of the dagger wielding assassin. The assassin grins towards the two, but it was obvious they could not see his face of joy as it was covered in a shroud of thick darkness. The assassin then gets upon a knee to further examine the lifeless body, a hand atop its shoulder. Before he could examine it, his eyes curiously hover over to the book next to him, coincidentally sprawled opened with large thick words plastered over the two pages. The assassin leaned his head closer towards the book, his eyes struggling to read the words upon it.
"Allah have mercy on you."

The assassin blinks a few times, not fully comprehending the words upon the two pages. An eerie shriek is heard across the room from the assassin which is quickly muffled out, the voice easily recognizable as one of his comrades. He lifts his head towards the direction as the other man looks towards the faintly lighted pillars.  The man quickly unsheathes his longsword from his belt and takes a step forward towards the direction of the scream. The assassin is frozen for a moment and looks down upon the lifeless corpse right next to him, his hand that was casually resting atop its shoulder forcefully grabs and flips it the would-be corpse over. It takes a moment for the assassin to clearly understand what he was looking at, his eyes going completely wide as a loud CRASH envelopes the whole room. The assassin covers his face with his arm as debris fly towards his direction, hot wax gripping at his arm. He looks up over towards the noise and sees a new large object resting in the spot his comrade once stood, soon recognizing the object as the once overhanging chandelier.

Gurgglee blurgg. . .

Is the sound the chandelier emits. The assassin quickly stands with a newfound stumble to his step and huddles over to the object. His mouth gaps open in fright as he sees his other comrade resting flat underneath the chandelier, his body crushed and his throat pierced from a chandelier stick as he lays there choking on his blood, his eyes filled with confusion and utter pain. The assassin stumbles back a couple steps in fear "W-What?!" he exclaims loudly.

The clouds begin to secede to allow for the moon to give off its gaze. The moonlight shines brightly through the main window of the throne room, lighting most of the room up as if the sun were out. A new figure stood near the throne, a long curved blade in hand as the moon light focused itself upon him.

"Did you honestly think it would be that easy?" the figure began to walk closer towards the assassin, who instinctively dropped his dagger on the floor and unsheathed his own blade, pointed towards the figure.

"True amateurs, did you not question yourselves at all when embarking on your quest of taking my life? Did the lack of guards not hint at anything at all?" Faiz takes another step forward towards the assassin with his scimitar held casually at ready, the moonlight reflecting elegantly off his back as if he were favored by the moon itself.

"How did you know?" the man asks rather sternly, cautiously stepping back.

"Are they not known by now? Very good. . “Faiz says as he pauses for a moment "Well, let us just say I have eyes and ears everywhere. I know where you came from, I know what your plan was, and I know who sent you.”  Faiz presses forward once more-

The assassin then darts forward towards Faiz unexpectedly, his arm lurched backwards as he swings straight downwards at him. Faiz simply deflects the assassin's swing with the edge of his scimitar and sends a sharp foot to the assassin's knee, causing the fool to collapse forward upon it. Faiz withdraws his scimitar and knees the man straight in the chin, causing him to daze out and lose ahold of his sword, collapsing onto his back. He then presses the sharp edge of his scimitar over the assassin's neck, causing the man to put up his hands to signal he surrenders.

"I have slain thousands within my lifetime... Soldiers, knights, warlocks, demons, all who were ten times more challenging than you three. It will take more than a group of amateur assassins to take my life." Guards begin to rush into the throne room after hearing the crash of the chandelier, holding torches as they begin to surround the Caliph for his protection.

"Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'oon." and with that foreign statement, Faiz retracts his blade in a forceful pressed slice on his neck, cutting clean through for a quick but painful kill. Soon, the throne room is re-lit with torches as they examine the dead bodies and the Caliph for any injuries. Faiz smiles in appreciation towards the guards and lets them know he's fine. As the guards finish cleaning up the dead bodies, chandelier and the torn dummy, Faiz makes his way upstairs within the palace to have a good night’s rest with his wife. There was no need for him to stay after all, no need to conduct a late night investigation. They already knew why the assassins came and who sent them, it was thanks to them that the information came to the Caliphate so prompt and accurately.

tl;dr

Assassins tried to take Faiz's life, but got utterly rekt. Illuminati confirmed? . . . . .
