From the Shadows

Darkness surrounded a young looking ker. Her white hair draped around her small form. Her hands over her stomach as she lay there. Shuffling in the room caused her brilliant blue eyes to flicker open and glow. “Watch your step.” she says into the dark. “Blood seeps from those who dare to cross him.” A chuckle echoed in the dark as a figure stepped closer to her. She sat up and adjusted her hair over her curved ears.

M’lady, we have word of a way to return that which you seek.” a voice whispered to her ear.

The ker stood and looked over. She could not have been more than fifteen years in age. Short, and thin. Her eyes glanced at the male that dared enter her sanctuary. He was tall, nearly twenty five. Human. Yes, their short lives were too easy for her to overlook anymore.

Bael.” she said, her soft voice cold and cruel. “He wants us to find Kknotos.” she says coldly. “Soon. If that means another must be sacrificed, so be it.” Her ears twitching as if a voice spoke to her. “Yes, master.” She looked at the human as he stepped back, terrified. “Find the one of wood and shadow. They will be the key to freeing master.

Bael quickly exited leaving her to her solitude.

Cheche

Not now. We have work to do.

But the blood. Cheche. The blood.

We will clean it. We will tend to that which was broken.

She closed her eyes and laid back down. The darkness once more enveloping her consciousness. How long had it been since she joined these men? Weeks? Months? Years? She could not remember. She remembered finding her way back to her home. But then it was a fog. Master must have changed things again. Something had to be found within the city of wood. Something that needed to perish.

Her memories had always been foggy since the day she woke up in the blackened druid tree. Those she had served lost her, unable to find her way back to her master’s call, she wandered. She remembered something was important, but what it was, she could not remember. They all wanted her dead, she knew that for sure. Father Evark made sure she knew that.

Was she really a ker? Or was she ahearal? She could never remember. She knew something was done with a potion. Her power was gone. All she was left with was her toys and wind. It was fun watching her men dance for her. They knew how dark she was. They all did. They were scared. However, one thing always bothered her. One phrase. “Wood and shadow.” she muttered, looking at her palms, feeling the sticky residue of blood that was no longer there.

She knew that it was important. She sighed and stood. Slowly tying back her hair, she changed. A sight caught her attention. A white vibrant scar on her dark skin. It ran along her stomach in a strange spiral pattern. She touched it before turning to verify one further scar. A smile graced her dark lips. “I will bring you back master.” she says glancing in the mirror at her back. “And I will get my power back. They will pay for what they took.” Her dress slipped over the scars, hiding them from view.

They will soon know a plagued love.
