Drifting Into Enlightenment

The elf remained in his seat beside the fire long after the woman left. As he peered into the flickering flames, he reflected upon the eventful evening. One now knew of his status, and he now knew the basis of the other's beliefs. As he pondered over what had happened, he began to feel a gentle tugging within his mind, the routine sensation which demanded he slip away from this world and into his own.

With this, he knew it was time for his escape. Leaning back upon the couch he was settled in, he allowed his eyes to close, the whirling of his mind beginning once more. The practice had become so routine by now, it was not long before he simply dropped from existence, escaping to walk among the clouds of his own peculiar world.

He peered around him, allowing delighted laughter to pour from his lips. Each time he ventured here, the world was a little bit different, as if each time he imprinted a different reality upon this strange place. As he thought about it, he realized he probably did imprint a different reality each time. After this brief indulgence, he strode off in search of his beloved companions, the two who had come before him.

With each bounding step, the cloud cover would ripple about his feet, disturbing the fluffy white as he continued his determined pursuit. Yet search as he did, he could not find them no matter how far he went. Despite the timeless nature of his world, he knew that it had been too long; never had he found such difficulty in locating his predecessors. Finally, frustrated by their eluding of him, he fell backward, slumping against the expanse of pillowy white.

His eyes drew themselves to the silver sun, eternally hanging in the sky. The magnificence of such a sight never failed to take the elf's breath away, for nothing so majestic existed in the world he fell to. His return was selfless, he though to himself, eyes persistent in their attraction as he beamed at the hanging orb.

It was then that he noticed the figure.

First a mere silhouette against the backdrop of silver, it quickly became apparent that the figure was approaching. Growing rapidly in size against the perpetual source of light in the ever-changing realm, as he grew distinguishable, it almost seemed as if he were forming from the sun itself. It seemed as if the figure was released from the light-bearing silver, dimming as the distance between the two grew. As whatever the thing was came fully into view, finally clearly distinguishable by the watching elf, the cloud cover parted, a fissure in the otherwise perfect expanse, gifting the arriving thing with a stage of its own.

Never before had Laethis seen anything like this. Ignoring its unique form, the scale of the creature alone was far greater than the typical man, countless times larger than anyone Laethis had ever known. Though its form was eyeless, its gaze was clearly set upon the elf, perhaps inspecting him, though that much was unclear. After an uncertain period in the timeless space, the entity finally spoke to the elf, the words seeming to come from no defined source.

"Laethis Izalith, come forward." The voice boomed, echoing through the unending realm. "It is time for you to learn everything. We have much to discuss."

With this simple command, the figure turned in the air, effortlessly heading in the opposite direction. Without question, the elf followed along, until they found greater seclusion within the being's chamber. It was there that the two conversed, allowing questions to be met with answers, until finally Laethis was certain in his course.

Laethis awoke from his trance, eyes opening to fall upon what had once been a fire, now mere embers struggling to exude the dimmest glow. Yet as the fire dwindled, his confidence did not; he rose an enlightened elf. He turned about, striding out of his home, for with his new knowledge came new tasks to be done.
