Biography

Vello wasn't always his name. In fact his fractured mind barely remembers anything specific about his past. In another time he hailed from the Imperial Heartlands and lived the regular childhood of an impoverished peasant. He was born in the year 1545 to a tavern wench and a traveling soldier now long gone. He worked on his grandfather’s farm when he was a boy, but being the poor family that they were, he was forced to resort to poaching on the lands of the nobles. This gave him the experience of becoming proficient with a bow and hiding from the Wardens who looked after the forests. While there was never a surplus of food, Vello's family never really knew true starvation and when hard times came he could always resort to his less than legal source of income. Life was simple but safe. The year Vello turned 18 started like any other but days after his coming of age, the Noble's recruiter came to town looking for recruits. Vello thought little of it at the time but when he woke up in an Imperial Army Caravan after a night of carousing his fate became clear.

Vello went through boot camp. He learned to march and secure a perimeter. To swing and stab his sword and how to hide from the nobles when they were angry. He also befriended a tinker aptly nicknamed "Tink" by his squad. Soon they were off on their first deployment. They were to escort a caravan through the arid badlands near orkish territory. They spent the night in a box canyon and their officer, a local noble, was too distracted by one of the caravan girls to worry about lookouts. In the night the camp was set upon by orcs. Vello, Tink, and the squad ran towards the more defensible end of the canyon setting traps as they went. Deep pitfall traps and explosive TNT pits. Caltrops and tripwires. As the screams from the camp quieted The Orcs caught the scent of the squad and hurtled in baying for blood. Vello shot with his bow and stabbed with his sword as his squad mates died around him. The Orcs suffered terribly at the hands of the Imperials but though many were torn apart by the traps just as many got through. In the end all that remained was a pile of corpses. The Sergeant was beheaded by an Orkish cleaver and Tink lay pinned to a tree by the barbarian arrows. Vello lay in the fetal position covered in wounds, surrounded by lost friends and hated enemies. Something snapped in him that day.

Eventually a group of Brotherhood Knights found the lost caravan and when their Prefect saw the pile of bodies around Vello he recognized his prowess and added him to his personal retinue. For years Vello followed the Prefect on many quests to root out the heresy of undead, monsters, and lesser species. While he served admirably Vello had several "quirks". He constantly came up with conspiracies involving orcs. How they were poisoning the well water, Summoning undead, or stealing all of his left socks. He also tended to put traps wherever the group camped leading to some unfortunate mishaps but luckily no fatalities. This led to the Prefect giving him the nickname "Vello" which means "One who twitches" in the High Imperial tongue. (It actually does). Vello responded by warning him of an orc assassination plot involving hiding in his wardrobe where all his left socks once were. Two days later the Prefect was skewered by a Hook-nosed goblin hiding in his closet. The Prefect's sudden death has left Vello open to his own devices for the first time in years. Hopefully Fortune favors the schizophrenic.

*The Brotherhood referenced is the Brotherhood of the Golden Crozier. I don't know I they still exist but they have a wiki page so I thought I would use them.

Personality Traits: Extremely paranoid. Thinks almost anything bad is part of an orc plot. Constantly securing the perimeter.

Ambitions: He wants to feel safe again. But he probably never will. Perhaps a cure for his tormented psyche? Maybe look for more heresy with the Brotherhood? (If it is even still a thing...)

Strengths/Talents: Fighting, Guerrilla Warfare, Traps, Will probably try to acquire as much explosives as possible. Anything to secure the perimeter

Weaknesses/Inabilities: He has few people skills. Most people think he is insane. Sometimes his delusions completely subvert his reality.

Appearance: Caucasian, Brown Hair, Lithe frame from years of peasant labor and surviving with the Prefect.

ACCEPTED

Your application has been accepted and you will be whitelisted shortly.

I just want to say, that this has been one of the most enjoyable applications I've read this past month. You turned a cliche story of Orcs killing those important to your character, but made it fun and interesting with his paranoia and tales. It reminds me of one of the characters I play alongside and always makes me laugh!

For your questions you have about building, this information is still up in the air as we're transitioning to a brand new map within a week. As of right now, however, if you want to build you'll either need to go to a free build area OR get permission from a region owner. For the later, ask in game who owns a certain plot of land and try to get added.

Here's the thread that will show you how to reach 'The Freelands' aka Free Build, created by @Ever

Welcome to LotC ~ Happy Role Playing ! And watch out for those orcs!
