Mostly because depending on the nation you wish to associate with, they treat children differently and even more so if they are an orphan, noble or a commonfolk's kid. I've seen cases where a new player was not exactly thrilled with the role-play they were given, not because it was unmotivated but simply because they didn't enjoy being looked down upon for being an orphan (simply an example). That'd be great, except that I don't want to join up with someone only to find out that I wasn't really interested in the roleplay, or anything like that. Not that I'm planning on it - so far this world is the best and most detailed I've found - I would just hate to let anyone down. Mostly I want to play a child because I want to be able to ask questions that adults should already know. About history or stigma... I want to be able to question anything. I wouldn't want to play a young child, or even an orphan honestly, probably about thirteen or fourteen. I was thinking about making my parents NPCs, or at least characters that don't show up for whatever reason. Good thing too, since it sounds like orphans probably aren't the most liked.
