I use uBlock Origin and haven't encountered a single popup or redirect. Images just link to the images for me.

Same here. I don't get the problem with forum links. It's only clicking on images from Gyazo and such in statuses.

For example, I actually Gyazo'd a screenshot from the website it brought me to and posted that on a status just yesterday. If you click on that picture directly it leads to the popup.
