ergo, i don't think any system is going to change that people are going to want to powergame, and we should keep the simplistic way things are run now.

 

the other points on your post, imo are fine, i'm neutral towards their implementation 

thats a fair point.
theres a lot of Ifs in the system that probably wont change much and just cause more problems but maybe it wont , we wont know until we try it. But since the whole bounty boards thing has just been recently implemented i agree that  we should probably keep it simple for now.

I had a marked man basically tell me OOC that because I was playing a creature that was sort of monstery, i had to basically let him 1 shot me with golden weaponry

 

this would just add to this "well i'm a professional monster hunter so i can't lose" attitude that so many players have when I run events for them

edit: in my time on the server and the ET i've learned that new players tend to powergame once or twice before learning, and they're happy to change

 

the most serial of powergamers are old players who feel entitled to win.

This whole idea beast suggested is a great one, having a ranked board for the bounties gives players a sense of achievement along with the great RP and helps keep retention for returning to these events. Striving to become a better monster hunter among others and joining other parties to try to hunt down bigger threats is good for a meet and great, low tiered bounties for newer players to try out and get a feel for RP combat.

 

It would help with retention greatly.

Trust me, as a member of the actual Event Team doing these actual Events, the worst players are the players who have reason to think they're better than anyone else.

If you get players who want to be jerks to the people running their events why don't you just blacklist them from bounties..??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

okay but look I do push back on people who are assholes

we don't need a 'ranking system' to gate what people can and can't do, that's needlessly bureaucratic

and if you're proposing a system to 'deal with the powergamers' that's just gonna make me have to deal with powergamers, doesn't that seem defeatist?

I mean your feedback is clear, you dont want it but I'm simply trying to think that there will always be those powergamers, marked men who think they can kill any monstet etc, Rank or no rank system. Regardless if the player is being a **** then blacklist them.

maybe have a little silly trinket shop to trade tokens for heads or a small mina bag or a casket etc.

The bounty system has clearly been a popular one, and it clearly has a few flaws. The majority of the points listed are also clearly great improvements and would allow participants to engage more effectively with the bounty system.

 

There are benefits and detriments to the ranking system. The largest benefit is that it would bestow tremendous meaning upon bounties by means of prestige and additional goals. The system could be handled IC or OOC - the function is the same.

 

Several detriments to the ranking system have been brought up - I see the two foremost as being a fear of power gaming and a fear of exclusion. The first appears to be an easy solve. The quasi-blacklist system is a good idea - an ET should be able to submit a report of a player, to be reviewed by an ET manager for a decision, with the player given first a warning (to allow improvement on etiquette between events) and then finally a blacklist. There are not so many people tackling bounties as to make this system unmanageable - it is, on the contrary, quite the opposite.

 

The second is solvable by virtue of adjusting the ranking system. For example, don't exclude bounties to participation by a specific level of player - instead, assign an ascending point value to each rank and make the bounty require a certain sum. These types of solutions are not difficult to build.

To this, I've just gotta say - what were you playing, and were they right? If they weren't, and you weren't at fault, it is within your purview to take initiative and say so. 

 

I've sat in on many ET conferences through several maps and helped organize events. I (very) often saw an attitude that was, regrettably, ET vs. the player, in that many ETs believed that if the player didn't like the event or how it was being run then they shouldn't have been there. An ET isn't unchallengeable - the player is investing as much of their time and energy completing the event as the ET is running it. This is why I've advocated so heavily for a voluntary review system following ET events: have players fill out a form to allow the ET to individually make meaningful improvements to their events and thus develop activities that are more and more enjoyable.

The loot system is.. arbitrary and lacking at best. We did a difficult level bounty today with eight people. Someone died. We got 500 mina, which is great, except it was split 7 ways in the end (70 mina each), on a bounty that suggested 6-8 people. The bounty also promised loot.. of which, I received: a slime block renamed 'Cave Leech Goo' and.. an emerald, renamed 'Heart-Shaped Amulet'. We had spent a long time in the event, had a great time doing it, there was wonderful RP from all sides, but in the end.. no one was really satisfied. There was no grand reward for this difficult level bounty. I spoke to the ET about it and basically got the answer, "Sorry, but this is how it is."

 

I'm going to be completely honest, if I knew the reward was going to be so incredibly shitty and not at all worth it, I wouldn't have done the bounty at all, nor dragged along 7 other people. I won't be doing any more bounties until I know the reward is actually worth the hassle and the threat to character.

No. The thing I was playing wasn't really killable. That was kinda the point behind it. I agree if I had been playing a Wraith, I should have corrected myself if I was wrong, but I was playing something entirely different, and the guy literally refused to accept that his golden sword wasn't blowing me out of the water.

My biggest argument in regards to the RP items and good loot, in direct response to the 'enjoy rp! don't ask for loot!' is that well.. It's a bounty. You're MEANT to have a worthwhile reward. So yeah, getting decent items would be nice.
