He knew the death of a nation would befall Oren, it was prophesized in the old religion after all. But he was naive, like a game of chess he played all of his pawns and risked his king.. him. He entered Johannesburg thinking to confront his opponent and end him once and for all. He planned on taking those wretches and turning them into his pawns. But alas, he was too naive. When the first of the explosions occurred he ran as fast as he could, and he outran the collapsing cobbles and burning buildings. But in a twist of fate, he fell to the depths below Johannesburg. Alifer Amice fell into the darkness that day, and he welcomed its cold embrace.. laughing all the way down into the abyss. But he would not die, the flames licked his clothing and the thanhium froze his flesh. But he would not die, he would defile death just as he had defiled the natural order. He felt something reach him and he grasped to it. When he awoke, he was at the bottom of a catacomb deep beneath the ruin that became Johannesburg. Alifer heard the whispers and they heard him too, they guided him out of the abyss. 

 

The hand tore through the earth, burnt and frozen but not broken...

 

Alifer Amice, the unbroken had emerged from the rubble of the fallen city burnt and frozen, but not broken. The sun set and the disfigured man tore a black and purple flag from the wall, He draped the torn flag upon his broken form and descended upon Helmswood. Screams erupted from Helmswood and blood splattered across the windows, crimson forms would descend upon the manor that night.. taking it for themselves. 

 

Alifer would sit upon the dining room chair, his pawns had gathered around him and had begun to enjoy their ill-fated acquired meal. Alifer's skin had turned pale and his eyes had become gaunt.. a sickness had begun to grow inside of him and a cure would be needed. But for now, victory was his.. for he had cheated an emperor and seen the empire falter. He had funded an entire rebellion and had caused a quake so mighty, it decimated the Orenian forces. He had cheated the emperor and had lived to tell the tale.

 

Alifer's voice had been damaged from his growing sickness. The raspy, nearly wraith-like voice whispered amongst the table...

 

"Fear the outer dark.. Fear the unborn.."

 

The pawns, blood smeared on their faces looked to their master and grinned.
