An Alchemist’s Plight

The young alchemist spent what seemed as if days down in his tenebrous laboratory, the lantern upon his large desk flickered haphazardly, granting intermittent intervals of faint light; he’d grown tired of relighting it, restlessness was ever apparent upon his visage, though he continued on his unceasing work. The human wasn’t trying to accomplish anything specifically, his shaky hands ever continuing in the alchemical endeavors as he toiled for more knowledge, to learn yet another concoction, another potion in his arsenal.

 

It was finished.

 

He’d felt as if he reached his pinnacle, grasping from his alembic one of the three vials to bring it closer to the lantern; the substance within a darkened liquid, as if almost the color of charcoal. A perplexing urge fell upon him as he grasped the elixir in his palm. He uncorked it, staring upon the foreign substance with ignorant eyes, the alchemist knew little of what was inside, nevertheless he shakily raised it up to his lips, perhaps believing it to be a concoction of beneficial effects.

 

Disregarding all doubts, he downed the liquid.

 

What followed was but a fit of violent coughs as he’d drop the vial onto the stonework below, a hand raising to cover the outburst of unceasing hacking, eventually his harks died down, though he lay on the frigid floor in his lab, unconscious as his own reddened liquid slowly delved from his maw.

 

The first Afflicted was branded, the parasite taking to its host.

OOC: I really just wanted to write a small piece as I have not wrote in a while.
