FATE FOUND

He arose to shouting loud and most clear in its intent. A rallying call had been uttered to the stalwart defenders of the Westerlands to repel a necrotic menace. He was numb, without a thought in mind save duty, all other emotions drained from him like blood from a fresh wound. The ground was cold, the night dark. The rain poured buckets as he moved through the streets, others gathered from their homes and were given arms so they might throw themselves as fodder to hold back the churning wave of darkness now threatening the capital.

He was among those men, pulled together to reinforce the army already fighting the enemy sat on their doorstep. Ill-prepared they went forth through Bastion’s front gate putting their boots to the muddy ground, their persons lightly peppered by the rain’s dew, though soon to be drenched surely.

The Battle of Dogger Bay, The Shattered Sea, 1563

They arrived to the screaming of dying men. The small quarry town that had once stood at the site then reduced to ruins, an insidious taint spread out to corrupt all it might touch. From it poured a dark army pushing forward against the scattered remains of the main army. The King’s forces were breaking, what barricade they were defending was set alight with hellfire and they had been driven to the perimeter of the ruined settlement. Only the best among them had survived, the King Leopold’s stalwart son Caius I and what little seemed to remain of the retinue that had originally arrived to fight the necrotic advance.

Ser Thomas Wettlock’s Triumph, The Larian Melee, 1569

It was then that the front-line broke and Ser Wettlock’s auxiliaries moved in to fill the gap, and the chaos of war engulfed them. To prevent a complete route was tje goal and accomplished that goal would prove to be be. King Caius I called their forces back, but Ser Wettlock and his men remained. He would hold the line. The Grand Army made it’s return to the capital, given the time they needed to do so as Quarryville burned. Though only for a time the line was held mere minutes that proved invaluable.

Then he was swallowed whole, the horde of hell surrounding the old warrior and the peasants at his side diminished before, now dead. He sounded off a grizzled battle cry, blood-rage overtaking him. The stench of blood simply too much. He fought hard invigorated by an unsated hunger before finally being pulled under by the Necrotic menace.

From the the slums coined as ‘Copper Court’ to the halls of Anpalais at the side of the Emperor did Ser Thomas Wettlock rise. He served among the likes of Michael Hightower, Vitallius de Capua, Leopold Francis, Ulric von Aesterwald and Henry Horen. He fought in the Rurikid Rebellions, the Riga War, the Krajian Rebellion, and against Tobia’s uprising. He lived defending friend and country, for the Empire and the Westerlands. He was the last of old, one whom lived to see the legends of the past and the flowering of the new. A loyal Knight of the old Empire.
