House of Merentel, born of rebellion, sustained by loyalty.  Founded in 1596, after the rebellion against the Holy Orenian Empire, House of Merentel is a new House formed under its patriarch Alexander Merentel with the support of the King of Courland, His Majesty Tobias of House Staunton.

 

House Loyalties

House of Merentel is loyal to Courland and has close relations with the ruling and royal House of Staunton and their allies.

 

House History

Alexander was born in the Orenian Crownlands in the Isles of Axios.

When his mother died of fever he realised that he had no reason for staying in the crownlands so, even though being a child, he left home and travelled far east until he found the County of Heart, ruled by Sven Hearth, a relative of Duke Aleksandr Staunton.

 

In Hearth, Alexander found the family he never had. He quickly joined its military and learned how to wield a sword. His skill with the sword was so impressive that the Count of Hearth himself appointed Alexander as the squire of a famous old knight. As his squire, Alexander learned all the secrets related to chivalry and discipline.

 

The County of Hearth lived a period of peace and prosperity.

But, as is so often with history, it repeated itself, the Holy Orenian Empire betrayed the Count of Hearth Lord Sven Hearth and drove them once more from the Holy Orenian Empire.

 

After the rebellion, Aleksandr’s son, King Tobias Staunton of Courland recognised the acts and deeds performed by the House of Merentel, raising Alexander to an official knightly status and becoming a member of the prestigious Golden Eagle's Order.

 

After proving his loyalty, Alexander was awarded with land and a title of Baron (Lord) by King Tobias of Staunton. He decided to name his barony Hallowfell, in memory of all victims of the Holy Orenian Empire. The Barony of Hallowfell wasn't completely built until the year 1600, when the building process was completed.

-Ser Corvus and the HOUSE of KEINT: After acting as the Marshal of Hallowfell, Ser Corvus "The Brave" recognized Lord Alexander as his liege lord and became his vasssal. The ancestral fortress of House Keint is Keintania.

The culture of House of Merentel is predominantly Courlandic.
