“Don’t forget, oem’ii, the most beautiful thing you can offer someone costs absolutely nothing - a smile.”

War always seemed to be hovering somewhere. If there was no occurrence happening at that moment, it was bound to explode at some point. Such is how it has always been. Gruesome battles and horrific night terrors plagued the minds of those directly involved, disturbing both their waking and sleeping hours alike. There was not much that would give cause for people to smile in these times. Not unless a reason was sought out.

But this was simply untrue. Arahaelth had seen many wars in her time maneuvering the realms and she had always given others a reason to smile. Be it by simply offering her words and company, or gifting a troubled family something as simple as woven band of flowers, there was always something to smile about.

In the days following a failed skirmish and a wounded husband, the elvish woman found her own smile beginning to wane. An arrow through the shoulder and an embedded shard within his side, it was nothing short of a miracle the elf had survived. Caring for him and striving to maintain his health, Arahaelth worked tirelessly to help him recover, knowing he would go to encounter the same again and possibly return in worse condition, if at all.

Despite all of this, however, there was a constant, ever babbling reason for why the Grand Princess managed to smile. Through the gloom and shadows that hung over the world, her beaming, little boy remained steadfast.

Sitting within her bedchamber, the wood elven woman remained situated before the crackling hearth, the tiny elf playing with his series of wooden blocks and playthings. With her back set to the marble and a contented smile resting on her lips, Arahaelth studied her child. His fair features and mop of curly, blonde hair spoke volumes of how he was his father’s child, even the lengthy ears resembled those of Aelthir. However, the one notable characteristic the chubby child possessed were the auburn eyes of his mother. Always bright and inquisitive, curiously looking about, the little elven child’s eyes were hers.

“I swear, your smile could light up a whole throne room, little one,” she thought to herself, smiling softly as Aelthos brought a building block up to his mouth and began to chew on the corner.

As though the little child could hear his mother’s thoughts, Aelthos turned his head and giggled up at Arahaelth, dropping the cuboid object and reaching up to her face, making grabbing motions with his small fingers.

A small laugh falls from the woman’s lips as she leaned forward, scooping the little one up in her arms and holding him under the arms so he would come to stand in her lap. Babbling up at her, the little Prince bounces up and down on the balls of his feet, energetic and, wonderfully, happy.

“Someone’s quite active today, hmm?” Arahaelth laughs, leaning forward to brush her nose against that of her son. Laughing softly as his hands came to begin patting her cheeks, she lifts her head away and reaches to pull him into a cradle in her arms. "My little boy," she sighs, smiling lovingly down at the child as he emitted a contented coo at being held.

Reaching her hand upwards, the elfess runs her index finger down the bridge of her son’s nose, booping it slightly as she reached the end. Aelthos cooed once more as his eyes fought to remain open, evidently tired from a long day’s worth of playtime.

“Uh oh … somebody is getting sleepy,” she chuckles softly. Slowly lifting herself to her feet, the Grand Princess reaches for a small blanket from an adjacent couch and begins to tuck it in around the little boy as he began to drift to sleep within her arms, curling his tiny fists against her chest and shifting one upwards so that his thumb went to his mouth. A tender smile washes over Arahaelth’s face as she watched her little one come to rest, secure in her arms.

“Even here in this time of pain and upset, oem’ii, you still cause me and your maln to smile,” she whispers, rocking him back and forth in her arms. “Stay small, little one. Don’t rush to grow up. The world of adults is one where fewer smiles occur and less laughter is heard. Stay small and continue to be unapologetically happy, my sweet.”

Shifting her gaze over to the sleeping form of her recovering husband, the corner of Arahaelth’s mouth turns upwards, reminiscing of the warm, elated laughter she had heard from him just a few hours prior as the little once reached for the circlet atop the Grand Prince’s head. Seeing the joy cross his features where a stoic emotion has resided for days was like a breath of fresh air.It was much the same with the young Princess she had come to befriend in Courland. Both of which deserved their smiles through all of this, something she was more than happy to offer.

The wood elven woman sighs as she seats herself across from the fireplace once more, rocking the sleeping bundle back and forth in her chair. Across her lips, a soft smile remains upon them, a soft smile that every mother knows when holding their child. A smile that holds more meaning in these times than any treaty or declaration.

In the sea of glass, a lone figure tries to smile, only to fail as his very being stopped such. Even though he was plagued with a life he was forced into, Darkstalker Varron saw the light in humanity. Suffer so no other, Man, Woman, Child, will suffer like he does.
