Veteran's Turmoil

The scene opens to a relatively recent one, crimson stains the fields that once were green; bodies litter the scenery as if foliage themselves, some bear the colors of a Coalition, Norland, Urguan, and so forth, yet the majority adorned tabards of Orenia and her principalities. Truly the sight of

horrid carnage.

Amidst the aftermath lie therein broken and beaten soldier, seemingly engulfed by a sea of fallen friends and foe, old Orenian plate ravaged and dented. Despite his injuries the veteran’s sallet affixed skywards, recalling time and time again the battle but hours ago.

The Orenia forces stood taut and alarmed, the Coalition’s bulk coming now into rapid view, just past the ford’s crossing. Orenian commanders were quick to hark orders and shouts, infantry braced and shielded against the volleys of arrows and bolts to follow. It seemed everything was at an unnerving standstill, the armies eyeing over the other whilst firing masses of projectiles.

The stalemate came to a hasty conclusion as a daring man in Norlandic Runeplate yearned onto the wooded bridge, leading the charge was Adalwulf Horen.

A grizzled veteran of Orenia replied in kind, treading forth the soldier was fitted in renowned plate from decades past, kiteshield in left, waraxe in right, Mercer Goltmann

The brutes clashed with the clatter of plate and grueling shouts, equipped in superior plate Adalwulf seemed to have the upper hand, granted the old Legionnaire’s experience made up for this disadvantage, despite his apparent struggle. Mercer’s axe carved into the left pauldron of Adalwulf, the Ashguard was quick to riposte, forcing his adversary back with a shield bash before smattering blunt weaponry onto the Orenian’s greave, cracking and crushing bone, handicapping the proud veteran, though no blood was to flow from the grievous wound, for he was not of a common man.

With the clatter of plate, the soldier of Oren collapsed onto the ground, though exceedingly drowned out by the toils of war, the twang of steel against steel, the screams and shouts of suffering men driven to the bloodied ground in a flurry of combat.

The battle was over, the reborn Oren torn and triumphed over in the field of strife.

A letter is sent days after in hopes of reaching the bedridden Emperor of Oren directly, John V @Eddywilson2/Othaman

Spoiler

“Your Imperial Majesty, I am but a grizzled and war torn veteran of Orenia, long have I served over many Emperors, past and present. Decades of conflict have proved awfully detrimental to me, in mind and body. I write this to present my request in departure from serving in your personal retinue, I need to rest and deal with my troubling ailment - may the Empire thrive.”

Mercer Goltmann

Decanus of the Legio I Ioannes, Nauzican, Black Legionnaire,

Orderman of the Black Dragon.

The withered veteran began a long trek northwards from the Empire's capital, mind wracked with the horrors of past and his befitting body of bone, accursed.

OOC note: Haven't wrote in a awhile and just felt like writing something brief!

I've had a long and great time serving in Oren, this empire and the last. I'd just like to move on and try something different.

Currently looking for a new group to hang around and RP with.

"There... was a battle today?" Arthur cursed beneath his breath, kicking off a few stones.
