Kvasir 1121 Share Posted July 13, 2017 Lord of The Craft is an anomaly to me. There are many people here that I enjoy greatly, and others that I simply dislike. - I have stayed around here for quite a bit, or at least as long as I have been able to stand and bear the server. I have thought about this a lot, however. A question I often posited myself was "Why do I stay on this server?" Well, the answer really comes down to this. - Lord of The Craft is a collaboration of beautiful ideas and words strewn together to form a functioning, living, and breathing ecosystem of roleplayers, and others who enjoy the game and its combat systems as well. Why does the server draw so many in? Simply as some have found, it is an escape to an easier place, as most good things are of course. The difference here with Lord of The Craft is that it has been crafted and formed over multiple years, but hundreds of people consistently roleplaying. What drew me in was the idea of there being no true set good guy, bad guy thing. Another thought that excited me about this server when I first started really trying to get into it was the idea that creatures had lore. Too many times in fantasy stories is the generic shadow upon the wall, with a sad backstory which is simply just 'minion of the dark' or something dispensable. With Lord of The Craft, there are very little creatures just like that. - As there is usually lore written for them, there are multiple origins something can have upon nature and creatures. There are Aenguls, Daemons, Immortals, and Man. - It is actually quite enticing how much of a true base there is. There is also a true air of mystery, which leaves the possibility for new writers and people who want to see more in a story that they love, so they add things using this base lore. From this, there comes a possibility for people to do what they wish, and there is a lot to be expressed and written about. The lore is not loose, it is not something that can simply be twisted and manipulated, there is an entire zealous community who wishes to see the server for the better and not with something that may show us as a server that tries to bring in as much new lore without actually reviewing it. - That is why the story works out so well. There are so many things that could happen, so many fun events that could be drawn from the expansive lore written by hundreds of people over nearly six years. Developing. That is why so many people stick around, that is the reason it is so nice. Because you can have a character, you can have a family of your characters. But you are still in the world of the server, you are still whisked away here and brought into it with your characters essence that may develop into somebody entirely different than yourself. The purpose of this server is to play your role, and write. To write is to bring your own unique perspective to the server. --- There is no problem in how many may express it, they are still here. Lord of The Craft can show you many good things, and help you if you wish. It is something where many living and actual people who are not just one author, with an echo-chamber upon their mind can bring constructive criticism to bring a story people will love for much more time. The problem here is I think people have lost that, the writing. People are here to play their roles, which is the purpose. But in a living and breathing world, there is also room to play that part with character and emotion. It can be quite a beautiful process to properly craft a character who is interesting and deeper than the surface. To try to develop how they speak, and how you write. One thing that I truly have to give Lord of The Craft credit for is the different tone my writing has taken on. Rather than writing that was usually used to try and just show somehting, I have been able to more express myself with word and meaning. I try not to go back to how I used to write which was more plain and boring, I have shifted to something that I enjoy. When I first joined Lord of The Craft I was quite boring, my roleplay stale and filled with memery. Though I only show that side when it is usually appropriate now, I would hope to think. It has shown me that writing is not just a tool, or a utility. It has more shown me that writing can be used to really captivate somebody and lead their mind down paths that may show them new ways to think. To ask why you use different words is a rhetorical question, as it should be questioned why you use the same words. Off of that, I should note that with writing on this server, and trying to express yourself in new ways, some will complain of there being too much text. To the point is not as fun as expressing the meaning of something more complex with words that may evoke more emotion from the person. Lord of The Craft excells in great writers, and I think that is great. - But not enough people express their writing side, they more focus on the mechanical side. I think that is the reason this server is slowly becoming less popular. We need to get back to the plot as I hear said at times, and back onto what got us here; Roleplay, writing. Words and letters. The same words and letters that made many of fall in love with this server, and others hate it. Many are turned off by the immense amount of OOC that happens, though I believe that a break of character is needed at times. Though even around friends I try not to let my roleplay drop. This server is a great place to write, to get feedback, to contribute to a living world. To express yourself, and show others your interpretation of a world that they have created along with many others. I think that we need to try and pull together even when others become toxic. Old admins and old GM's who wish for recognition with a job they were never asked to do, a thankless job. I think a thing people will remember is that this is a minecraft server. But the server is a base for our lore, our way of expressing the world as well. It is the best we have in my opinion, and I think that Minecraft is a great medium for this. It can be accessed by many, and has many things to chose from to build with. Still, they see this as just another minecraft server to act sarcastic in roleplay in. To say snide ooc remarks. I believe that these people too have began to become bored. A way to remedy being bored is to try and introduce new events and things happening, there needs to be more of a hand scooped into our lore, to pick up the pieces of a beautiful project. To put these pieces into action and execution, to show the story of a world transmitted through a nice and cozy medium. One that works. - This works. We need to stick with what we have, to make it work. To do our part and help eachother. - To stay in character, and to bring true effort to our roleplay, as when you do not you are not roleplaying, only playing an extension of yourself you have projected onto a different name. A common mistake. Have a nice night.

mmat 7460 Share Posted July 13, 2017 Despite what people say, they have fun here and make some good friends which sometimes transition to irl friends. They also hate it because it exposes everything that seems to be wrong with their actual life at the present time. There's nothing wrong with LoTC at any age really, if you have the rest of your life intact. t1t for tat.

Maybe the reason things are not thriving for you personally is because you do not make them thrive. Perhaps, for once, you are the problem in the event of that situation.
