On the Brigade

    

          The Eagle is elegant, but fierce, proud, but loyal. These characteristics guided Philip I Halcourt in choosing to place an eagle on House Halcourt’s sigil, and these same characteristics guide the men of the brigade in their duties. In joining the brigade, men commit their lives and honor to Aven and its Count. They serve their count with pride, fighting for him with ferocity and without reservation.

 

          When the heartlanders and relourians of Aven came together after receiving a County from his Imperial Majesty, Peter Sigismund, they revealed a shared commitment to martial prowess and discipline. The men of the brigade serve as the epitome of this commitment. They are more than a disjointed militia called to arms in times of war. They are a standing army and peacekeeping force. The brigade constitutes a significant portion of the Avenese levies, and their composure and discipline on the battlefield spreads courage throughout the Count’s ranks.
 

          But while the men are charged first and foremost with the defense of Aven, it is their actions and dedication in times of peace that truly define them. They train regularly, perfecting the techniques and strategies that lead to their success in combat. Not only do they to fight, but they also keep the peace. The Relourian Brigade acts through the authority of the Count of Aven to enforce imperial law within his lands, protect his family and his subjects, and defend his holdings from bandits and crooks. The men of the brigade truly are the pinnacle of Avenese values, upholding with honor and loyalty, in peace and in war, the culture, the people, and the peerage of Aven.

Ranks

 

Command

 

           Commandant: The Commandant is the commander in chief of all forces within Aven. He exercises the authority of the Count in all military affairs. He is entrusted with the maintenance of the levies and acts as the chief advisor to the Count in tactics and strategy.
 

           Capitaine: The Capitaine is the second in command of the Brigade. He acts as the Commandant’s enforcer, ensuring all orders are followed, tasks completed, and rules obeyed. He is an experienced soldier and must be willing to lay his life down alongside his men if necessary. He reports to the commandant, but may act independently in his absence. In the event of the Commandant’s death or resignation, the Capitaine assumes his duties until a viable replacement is found.

 

           Lieutenant: The Lieutenants organize training, enforce discipline within the enlisted ranks, and work directly with the men as a role model and company leader. He directs companies of men on patrols of Aven, fighting and enforcing the law alongside them.

 

Enlisted

 

           Sergeant: The cream of the crop, Sergeants are the most experienced and well trained enlisted men within the Brigade. They are assigned to patrol groups ranging from 2-5 men and assist the officers in their administration.
 

           Caporal: The tried and true, these are the men on the frontline, having proved their worth both on and off the battlefield. Caporals are highly disciplined and embody the values of the Relourian Brigade.
 

           Soldat: These men have just completed their basic training and proven their competency and potential to the commandant. Soldats have sworn their swords to House Halcourt and serve with pride. The majority of men in the brigade hold this rank, forming the true heart of the Avenese military.
 

          Aspirant: The raw recruits of the Brigade. These men have yet to prove their metal and  complete basic training. They are the future of the Brigade, green men ready to be disciplined and molded into effective soldiers and peacekeepers.

Why enlist?

 

• Home. Service in the Brigade guarantees you will have a place to live for as long as you serve. Whether it be a bunk in the barracks or an officer’s quarters.

• Free food and drink. Each and every man in the Brigade will have access to food and drink for free.

• The opportunity to ascend the social ladder. Although one may start off as a pawn in the ranks of foot, through hard work and dedication they may find themselves holding leadership roles in the Brigade. Because the the people of Avenese and Relourian society have a long history of martial aptitude, the men of the Brigade command a great deal of respect within Aven.

• Free equipment. Men of the Brigade are assigned their own armor and weapons courtesy of Aven.

• The opportunity to be rewarded. Aven has many medals and awards prepared for men who serve bravely.

• Brotherhood. Joining the Brigade means joining not only a militant body, but a community. Men of the Brigade work and train with one another, fraternizing and building lifelong relationships.

• Honor in service. The Brigade is entrusted with protecting Aven and enforcing the law. The order and peace men of the Brigade bring to Aven is a reward of its own.
