Sorry to those who had AT questions during the community meeting.. I totally forgot and slept through it but I really would have liked to get a word in. I'll answer them here and feel free to ask any extra questions under this thread if you wish to- I'll respond to them if they have to do with the team I direct. Not putting this in the slideshow, I just wanted to make sure you guys received answers.

Community meeting thread questions and answers (in spoilers) :

Q. Whilst the Application team seems to operating well and getting its job done, is there anything being done to actively try and bring in new players from the internet? (Advertising, Media etc) And if so, are the Application team even involved in this decision, or is it an Admin thing? [Harrison]

Spoiler

A. The closest thing we currently have to advertising right now would probably be the Tailor's Guild, where we post skins on planet Minecraft and always be sure to have the [LOTC] tag added underneath. We've pulled a ton of people from PMC this way. Some other new players we get come from Youtube after finding older trailers and video tutorials. Making new videos to add to the LOTC Youtube channel is tricky because the admins expect a certain quality of video that requires the use of vanish and spectator mode (which we don't have) but any other forms of media we could certainly help out with. It's not technically something we're supposed to do, but we can and I'll find a way to. We never get less than 100 applications a month, so hopefully we're not doing too bad at the moment with getting people to join. The main problem we've run into is keeping them around.

Q. What projects do you currently have or planning to have concerning or revolving around player retention? [Wendigo]

Spoiler

A. I'm unsure if this was directed towards us or administration but I'll answer anyways. If you think about it, all projects are designed to make the server better for everyone- and therefore increase player retention by making them want to stick around. The RP settlement guide project is designed to help new players find were they're supposed to go easier. The Tailor's Guild offers decent skins that help them fit in. The New Player Discord is there so that we can always give quick OOC assistance to new people with questions or concerns about the server and they don't have to feel alone. The ET/AT project is to provide entertainment and also so they can get a feel for events. (that one isn't fully launched yet.) And of course I am personally gathering player retention data. It won't truly be useful until some time has passed and we can notice a trend in the information.

One other quick thing I wanted to note about player retention- No "project" is going to completely keep people on the server. While staff do their best to give the newbies things to do and guide them in the direction of role-play, it's up to the entire RP community to be kind and open to the people they see with that pink [n] tag. Show them how things are done, role-play with them, invite them to your friend skype groups/discords, overall just make them feel welcome. That's the best way to increase player retention.

Enjoy!
