The raking of metal teeth against wood rung out. . .

 

It was an early morning around the Leeuwenhof valley and yet an ungodly disturbance cut through the tranquility.

 

And it continued, until the pained creak of a tree falling cushioned the grating.

 

The onlooker may affirm to themselves quietly that this was some great injustice to nature, perhaps at the hand of a greedy, slimey man who wished only to profit from the decimation of what was pure, what GOD had created.

 

Alas, the onlooker would be wrong. For wielding the saw, the metal teeth that chewed through the bark of that young oak, was a humble peasant draped in humbler clothing; a man of unremarkable qualities, who even though reeked slimey, was far from it. No, this young oak that fell was to comprise something greater, something remarkable that was to be created at the hands of this unremarkable man. A home.

 

Calmly he lay the log upon its final resting place, within the roof as a rafter amongst many. Albeit, it was akin to the others, and though it was otherwise unremarkable like that craftsmen who had laid it, an important role was bestowed upon it. It had become the very backbone- the blanched, naked spine of this most revered structure.

 

“Moj dom.”

 

He stated, laying sunken, fatigued eyes upon it. . .
