THE FACILITIES OF FREEDOM

ON THE SYSTEMS OF THE GOVERNMENT AND THEIR IMPORTANCE TO FREEDOM

Written by A. Hawksong

The Dominion of Malin’s current system of Law and Order within the Greater Elvenesse was forged not by mindful intuition but insightful experiences. For as long as I can recall, the mali have lived under a strict and forcibly ruthless body of governing powers constantly at war with one another by more ways than that of quill and parchment. With the rampant adoption of the Written Word in recent years, the mali have achieved a near ascension to the realm of progressive and democratic practices without condemning themselves to the pitfalls of organized self-government.

A sort of Representative Republic is what accounts for our nation, allowing the expression of ideas and movements of thought to be more than footnotes in our history books; we have reclaimed our ability to rule this nation with far more than power.

Freedom is the bedrock of this society. The Rights and Liberties which each and every citizen demonstrates outright has made this nation stronger than even that of the past Orenian federations. This system, however, does come at a heavy price.

We here in the Dominion of Malin - namely Caras Eldar - find ourselves ostracized and sometimes even criminalized for our nation’s perception to the outside world. While the cancerous growths of our society continue to fester, how can we expect to grow? We have done an immeasurable amount to this date to set into effect the rule of Law to any who would abuse it, but we often find ourselves playing power-politics and handing out favors with little to no reason. This system has stopped under our newfound government, and I for one am excited by this.

Accountability is what governs this nation: the People hold the Officials accountable, the Officials hold the criminals accountable. It is a loop of beneficial maturation of Order that will guide this great nation into a lifetime of proper peace and stability. Of course there will always be conflict of beliefs and values, but I urge each and every one of you to let such ideological arguments begin and end at the Words we write and speak. Never again should this nation be one where a butchered citizen in the street is held less accountable than a historian raising valid criticism.

Theology, for example, is a fantastic system of life; however, it is that of culture and not of governance. While equal say on all matters is permitted rightfully to the nation, we should and shall never be a Theocratic body of Free People. The atrocities that would follow from such would be far more than we could bear in our mortal coils. But I digress.

The Freedoms which our People are given and urged to be used are that not granted to many in the outside world. The Warhawkes recent rebellion of their joining of us is one such example of our system at work in a corrupted fashion. The hand of cooperation was offered to his People by Locke and those who wished to express concern were more content plotting and murdering than to raise valid criticism. Now that nation across this narrow gulf seeks to remain independent. I think that is their Right to declare such.

But for a moment, reader, I encourage you to see such an event from a more abstract frame of mind. A People may govern themselves, yet circumstances often find their belief in themselves and their kin to waver. Why would such a People employ such brutal and objectively disgusting tactics in removing a public servant from office who sought the greater good of their People? My take, reader, is that the People had no say. While hands may have raised they were raised in fear of being left out. The fear of being held accountable to the corrupted standards they shifted so precariously to gain power for themselves.

This cannot occur in our State, reader. Many within our walls - within our homes - could seek such a reckless and damning grab at power for their own self-benefit. They may hide under many banners and creeds but they are corrupted and outright violent in more than just their demands. The most direct way to say this is as such:

“Those who claim their power by blades will forever be doomed to govern by blood.”

Our fair Elvenesse is but a daydream for now, my readers. It is implemented but must be nurtured and grown steadfast. I ask you all a simple question: would you rather live in a world where your voice is nothing or drowned out in the screams of the violent? Or would you rather live in a state which grants your voice an equal shout and an ear to lend it to? I cannot answer for you, dear readers, but I know of what I would wish to live by.

TL;DR

Spoiler

The Government of the Dominion is one to serve the People and we want the People to give us their input. We will no longer tolerate people killing one another or beating people in the streets and letting them off just because of status. Accountability is something needed to make the nation strong. Also, Warhawkes did democracy wrong. And, uh... oh, there's a pretty badass quote about like "blood" and "blades" and its pretty nifty.

"Fair points from the Treasurer, I am thankful that his logic is sound, though not entirely infallible since it gives off the wrong impressions. If you ask me, the recent travesty with Lockezi was something unavoidable -- but what is completely unacceptable is the willingness of one of their representatives to assassinate him within the very bounds of our territories." said Kairn.

Mawloc Othan would flip through his council records, going back many elven months in search of a dominion-warhawke alliance proposition.

He is unsuccessful in finding anything relating to such.

"In a society where everyone is considered family, regardless of your bloodline, it is disgraceful to make such acts with nations whom sought past transgression against my people without the consultation of the whole council." he'd think to himself.

"And he wonders what he did wrong... Hmph." he'd state softly before leaning back in his chair within the council room.

Khaine, from his time-out in the GM-valhalla (where he fights non-stop with plenty of the ex-gm angels who have ascended to heaven), requests and receives writing utensils with which to pen a response. After he completes the work he hands it over to ex-gm archangel Respiren, who kindly flies it down to Atlas and distributes the document - seemingly a response to the ideas penned.

The apparent actions, not that I would have seen them, against a Mali’ker chief in Dominion lands is regrettable, but the general sentiments behind this I believe to be filled with error, or wishful thinking. This is hardly a crime as we all can be slaves to such sentiments, but I feel the need to correct some fundamentals.

It is easy and popular to advertise freedom and the ‘wisdom’ of the people, which is why it is dangerous. I do not mind being unpopular, as long as I am effective. Of course, a ruler must always keep the prosperity of his people in mind, but it is the simple fact that they are the people and not the rulers that make them the children which must be guided. Mistakes are always made, and let us not forget that ‘the people’ are not perfect. It is ‘the people’ who I have often seen defending vile and malignant creatures from our honourable Virarim because their stomachs detest any kind of violence. If ‘the people’ deserved to govern then they would be the rulers - but they are not.

Such idealistic theories of representation could perhaps be afforded in a world which is not full of subversive and violent dark creatures which seek to destroy those same ‘people’, or a world without hostile enemy powers lurking behind each rock, waiting to strike. But unfortunately for all, it is that kind of world. Order and stability is paramount but the way to achieve this is not by giving the often fickle concept of ‘the people’ power, it is by a strong hand selecting from those ‘people’ the best among them who are also fit to lead, and guiding the rest - punishing if need be. In that vein, the so derided 'theocracy' is so elevated because those priests are often the most educated and tempered of the citizenry.

There must be a balance between the decisive, willful, iron will and strong word of the Prince and consultation with the Dominion’s people, in the form of audiences, holding court and always remaining visible. The death of the nation will be to show ourselves as trapped in a quagmire of bureaucracy and gridlocked by demagogic representation.

I will say one final thing.

‘Those who claim their power by the pen will forever be doomed to govern by ink.’

The pen is a luxury given room to act by the necessity of the sword. If then, the pen hand turns on its own sword hand and undermines it, the body is unprotected from the predators which always lurk.

Khaine Csarathaire.

I agree with your sentiment in regards to the ruling of authority, but I cannot and will not condone the use of excessive force within our city's walls to express displeasure or to prove a point politically. This entire missive is meant to demonstrate the values of a society founded upon rational beliefs instead of shortsighted warfare. Even your Bronze Rebellion was created out of necessity of valued discourse yet we consistently find ourselves reverting back to a primitive system of Law and Order.

The beauty in our new government which has been established is the creation of Choice. While the People do not have the say to move the nation to the ever-changing whims of perception, our government allows them to openly voice their frustrations without fear of a Druidic attack being deemed okay.

Yes, certain actions such as calling for violence or death is cause for alarm and should be treated in turn; however, the use of force is not justified in taking actions into one's own hands or neglecting the Law by which this nation governs itself. I understand and respect your views, but the world will never willingly bend to violence. It may be satiated, yes, but never truly won. Rational thought (like what was expressed between us both today with these letters) will define the legacy to come after our times have ended.

We serve this nation and pay our dues. We are not artists or scholars or warriors as we all would wish to be. We make the sacrifices at this point in history so that our children someday may be granted the chance to be what they wish by the foundations we set now. And a marshal state of internal violence, illegal actions being accepted as justifiable, and coups of leadership for petty reasons will never allow for such. Good day and may the Aspects Guide You.

The second ex-GM valhalla ban prison letter comes.

"I do not believe we actually disagree on much, but I will challenge your claim that the world will never willingly bend to violence, and your inference that it can be truly won any other way. The world cannot ever be won by mortals, and can only be bent for a time.

The current prosperous incarnation of the Dominion was won by the threat of violence, against a lethargic government. All of the human empires since the very first have been built upon violence. No strong government or hierarchy in history, capable of protecting its people, has ever been formed or maintained without violence.

It is the ugly truth of the world that violence is the shield, and behind its dark gaze prosperity can bloom. Appear to be willing to use unwavering force at any given moment, and none will provoke you.

PS: I thank you, these discussions entertain me in my time on the naughty step."

"When a Nation harbors killers, also known as Ascended, they arent worth much, to be honest" Nei grumbles.
