Order of the Ursus

Introduction

The Ursurian Order was first founded after the fall of the principality by a band of Curonic knights, together writing what would soon be known as the Oath of the First Knights. These scriptures were later found and revived by the Lords Devereux, re-establishing the Order under the command of Edward Devereux, with Wilhelm establishing himself as the Grand Knight. Their valor and determination was tested, tried true, with the Order increasing in size and stature. Under the guidance of Edward, the Ursurians became a fierce fighting unit, with an expertise of various types of weaponry. And so the Ursus rose again, like the great North Bear rising on its hind legs, who’s roaring maw and massive figure would be etched into every shield of an Ursurian guard.

 

Now we stand in Arcas. The Royal Army has expanded its focus, branching off with a Navy and Huntsmen’s Chapters. With renewed vision, the Ursus shall go back to their roots, forging itself to become the battle tested elite of warriors from Curon, those who shall be feared in midst of battle, and respected when seen on street. The White Bear’s shall march again.

 

The members of the Order of Ursus have two goals for their duty. The first is to defend the lands of Curon with their life, to shield the people from enemy plans and serve their King and Grand Knight with every drop of blood in their body. The second is to locate, regulate, preserve and safeguard the Curonic Ideals, Virtues and Cultures, for they are the true heart of a Kingdom.

Ranking Structure

When first inducted into the Ursus, one must swear an Oath, differing from that of the original First Code, to dedicate their arms and service to the Ursus and the people of Curon, until either retirement or death. Once sworn in, many will find that regular and active service, will lead to a life or recognition and honor within the entire Kingdom. The ranks of the Main Branch are as follows:

 

Recruit: This is a freshman, having not yet been sworn in. Their armor fresh and shiny, and their experience limited, these recruits will be tried the hardest, learning to handle and overcome the toughest of challenges in an Ursurians way.

 

Shieldman: After being sworn in, this is the first official rank of an Ursurian. Being first in line to gain experience, learning how to withstand even harshest charges, witnessing gore of war from frontline position. They will assume the responsibilities and have the established expectations of such. Ursurians are held to a high standard, as they are intended to be a highly skilled and disciplined. Despite being of the lowest ranks, through hard work, effort, and discipline, Shieldmen will find themselves with plenty of opportunities to rank up.

 

Man-at-Arms: After proving themselves in rank of Shieldmen, they will achieve the rank of Man-at-Arms. Battle hardened, they now are proven amongst brethren. With loyalty to kingdom and no fear in the face of  the enemy, they now possess rank which brings both honor and recognition amongst warriors of Ursus.

 

Vindicator: Once warrior has served long enough in Ursus, proving himself to be active on duty and willing to provide best of his abilities for Curon, they shall be awarded with rank of Lawbringer. Being recognized for their outstanding fighting ability, clear order obedience and role model character, they now will be able to lead lower ranked troops if no higher ranked troop is present.

 

Warden: Upon reaching veteran rank in Ursus, being a clear role model both for recruits, and for battle hardened brethren, only select few may gain rank of Warden. These troops will be first at the charge. If in times of peace, any nobility need protection, they are the chosen. In midst of battle they shall boost army morale and hope. Disciplined, masters in combat, they are the Vanguard and the Veteran core of the Curon army.

 

Standard-Bearer: From amongst all non-officer troops only one can be chosen to hold standard of Ursus army and Curonian kingdom. Without denying the most worthy and devoted to cause, they shall be the soldier who will have to withstand all in battle, just to ensure that pride of Curon shall not fall. National hero, and role model, recognized amongst all from Kingdom of Curon. The job is one of a sacred, and yet dangerous, honor.

 

Captain: A Captain is an example of what happens when an Ursurian has taken their duty above and beyond for their people. They will be put in charge of their own men and expected to lead appropriately, bestowing their wisdom and experience on them.

 

General: A General’s duty revolves around assisting their Lord Commander, acting as their right hand man. They will assist in commanding their Captains, and will do as their Commander instructs, directly taking orders from him and the Marshal.

 

Lord Commander: The Marshal’s right hand, and commander of the Order of the Ursus. They are in charge in the event of the Marshal’s absence, and their word is final. They will be expected to organize and lead different missions, patrols, and trainings, all while protecting the city during attacks. This is the highest tier of leadership for the main branch, and they will act as an example to all. They shall ensure that the active number of the Ursus does not fall below acceptable levels.

 

Marshal: The highest attainable rank in the Royal Army. Their job is to ensure that all branches of the Army function as needed, and at appropriate strength. They are the military voice of the King himself.

Arms and Weapon Mastery

In order to raise your status in the ranks of the Ursus, one must complete their expected duties, in conjunction with a test of the ranks primary weapon. Each rank of the enlisted is expected to master a certain weapon, and test their knowledge of it and its use, before they can be promoted. This is to demonstrate the versatility of the Ursus, and harden them into stronger warriors.

 

The basic weapon of each member is the first weapon they are trained in, is an arming sword. It is a great side weapon for any warrior, serving as a utility tool as well. As the men rise further up the ranks, they learn to master the arming swords, maces, battleaxes, spears and finally two handed swords.

Being the main battlefield chapter pushes further Ursus to expand their abilities. Enforcing on recruits knowledge of siege weaponry, medical treatment and crossbow usage ensures adept and versatile warriors are created.

 

The Order of Ursus wears the finest equipment blacksmiths have to offer. A Coat of Plates with the proud colors of the Order and a suit of Chainmail underneath. A steel helmet protects the face from damage. The finer and more experienced warriors wear a suit of Fluted Plate Armor for maximum protection.

 

 

Benefits of Joining

 

• The Royal Army of Curon is currently the only military in the world that gives out weekly pay to its members.

 

• Pay increases each time a soldier reaches every second rank, 4 pay raises in total. Starting weekly salary of 200 mina.

  • Recruit starting salary: 200 mina per week.

  • Vindicator - pay raise: 300 mina per week.

  • Standard Bearer - pay raise: 400 mina per week.

  • General+: 500 Mina per week.

 

• While many other nations have fine militaries, the Royal Army of Curon (which the Order of the Ursus is a part of) does not force upon its members oaths for life. That is the old way of doing things, where soldiers are expected to serve for their entire lives with little to no compensation. Instead, the Royal Army only enforces an oath to be upheld while that individual is part of the Army.

 

• The Royal Army offers free and taxless housing within barracks, for those who cannot afford to live within the homes of the city.
