THE DRAGON KNIGHTS TRIUMPH

The Dragon Knights ambushing the futile Reiver host.

 

The sun setting in the west brushed over the fields before the Capital of Helena, hosting a large retinue of proud Dragon Knights and legionnaires. They milled about within the confines of the city, preparing horses and equipment for the ensuing fight. The head of this rally was the recently promoted Dragon Knight, Ser Rodrik - given the moniker “the Bloody” for his brutal performance in combat during the War of the Two Emperors.

 

A challenge had been issued by the opposition, a call for a battle of equal numbers - almost tauntingly in the offer, as if expecting such a request to be rejected. Though, any sane man would know the men of Renatus would never back down from a fight against any odds. For they knew their cause was righteous and that GOD would bless them with victory after victory as he has done so in his divine right so many times before.

 

And with that, the fifteen man retinue rode out of the city; some maintained their feet on the ground while others opted to ride atop the Renatian Chargers, a war horse bred for offensive engagements. Upon meeting the foe, there was a small sense of shock that spread across the Renatian ranks, for the foe who issued the challenge fled on first sight. They retreated back into the Fort at Leuven, presumably due to the fright that overcame them upon seeing the proud men of Renatus.

 

“Into the houses!” ushered Ser Rodrik to his troops, not willing to let the opposition forces live. It was in these houses his retinue rested, waiting for the opposition forces to think it was clear and to subsequently depart. Eventually, that moment came and the unassuming Reivers waddled out of their fortifications; once they were far enough out the air hung with an eerie silence before it was broken “CHARGE!” was the cry that rippled through the air.

 

Rushing out of their positions prime for ambush, the Renatians charged forth in to the ranks of the Reivers and cut them down almost effortlessly with not a shed of mercy. Another victory for the Imperium Renatum, and it was becoming ever-more clear that if these men were facing a greater force, or facing a similar sized force then the result would always be the same. Victory.
