INTRODUCTION

The House of Ravexi is an ancient Dark Elven lineage tracing their heritage back to the original dedicants of Veluluai in the form of Ilithis Voryn, who is regarded as the first to take the Ravexi name and is subsequently revered as the ancestor of pursuit. While their ultimate course of action became the abandonment of Magara’lin following the death of Luara’s Chosen at the hands of the Azulites, they have upheld themselves throughout the centuries since as a people known for their staunchly traditionalist values and stringent adherence to the old beliefs which they cling to. Their relevance in the modern era stems from the deeds performed by Koltira Ravexi, a paragon who worked hand-in-hand with Khel Oussana to lay the foundations for a modern Dark Elven people, and through the exaltation of the ancestors have they come to act in the methods of the Father; an unflinching adherence to the virtues of law, diligence and a tireless ambition for power and glory.

CULTURE

RELIGION

The Ravexi vehemently oppose what they call modernist poison that has seeped into the very roots of Dark Elven society -- the intermingling of their own culture with that of orcish savagery, what became so commonplace following the deceit of the Laurir’ker and their barbarity. That being said, their view upon the so-called ‘spirits’ is simple; rejection. Yet they, as many other of their kind do, pay reverence to the Goddess Luara. To them, she is just that, a goddess, and to pair her alongside a menagerie of savage idols is a disservice they rarely do abide by. She has no equal, and to even suggest such is to profane against the mercy she granted to the ancestors during the days of the Shrieking Night. To them, Orcish spirits do not belong, and are ultimately a perversion of a people’s indigineous faith brought about by race-traitors who sought power by lavishing lesser beings with deference and subservience, selling out their people for profane and dark magics what allowed for them to bring forward the resting souls of the dead to dance to their tune and speak their poison.

Alongside their worship of the Moon Goddess is their respect for the ancestors. They hold true to tradition, and strictly so, in refusing to recognize any pantheon of greater ancestors, nor by exalting those unworthy of praise. The Ravexi consider three ancestors to be exalted for their deeds in life, thus deemed worthy of sainthood as living manifestations of the Goddess’ will and blessings upon her wayward children. These are named the Father, the Mother and the Zealot. Koltira Ravexi, who above all others of his name made power and strength his duty and chose the path of leadership and domination. Veluluai, who gave birth to the modern Dark Elven people, delivered them into the light of the goddess and built for them a homeland to call their own. And lastly, Khel Oussana, who delivered his people from their ignorance and ushered a return to a place in the sun not held back by the ravings of lunatics and degenerates.

Besides the ancestor-saints, personal shrines are often erected in Ravexi households to less recognized ancestors; warriors of renown, orators of exceptional skill and generally speaking other figures whose blessings might be sought after for one purpose or another. All in all, an emphasis is placed on the veneration of their ancestor-saints over the Goddess Luara, whose worship is delegated to a more all-encompassing service wherein the Ravexi pay homage to her through their deeds in lieu of prayer, dedications and shrines erected in her name, reckoning that so long as they do not squander or take for granted the blessings of clarity, then they are in her favor. Another belief is the Ravexi ideal of the noble spirit, and the belief that those who commit worthy deeds in life are destined to be reincarnated after their death, that the soul is given form again in the lineage of their descendants, giving way to a prophetic tradition and various superstitions regarding the circumstances of one’s birth.

VALUES

The Ravexi strive to emulate their patron ancestor, Koltira, whose deeds are said to have embodied the strength of their name as a reincarnation of the spirit of Voryn himself. That being said, they are not ones for virtues others might praise; humility, temperance, charity. To a Ravexi, power is the most noble of ambitions and thus do pride, determination and cruelty take center stage as things to be admired. Because of this mentality so prevalent among the Ravexi, they are generally regarded by others with more kindly sensibilities as arrogant, malicious and power-hungry. All of which could be said to be true, though perspective would have that the Ravexi see their worldview as a necessity and that they fill a critical role in Dark Elven society, believing that without the stern hand of Koltira to guide them, the weakness of modernity and degenerate values have corrupted and brought low a people who were strong underneath the iron-fisted hand of their forebear.

FAMILY

The Ravexi do not respect the traditional patriarchal-matriarchal power structure of most family groups. Instead, in the vein of their patron, it is ultimately power that dictates Ravexi leadership and Ravexi patriarches tend to rule with a callous and iron-fisted touch. Because of this, kinslaying is commonplace and blood-brothers will often partake in an affair known as the mei'tabar 'paikahrendrid or Ahrendrid’s Duel; these bouts of sanctioned, ritualistic conflict end in the death of the losing participant, who is thereafter considered to have been feeble in body and spirit alike. While the duel is typically reserved for sons attempting to supercede their fathers or otherwise assert dominion over the Ravexi, it is often invoked over grudges or simple feelings of hatred and distrust due to the belief that whomever is slain is torn from the wheel of reincarnation, that their deeds shall go unsung and they will ultimately wither away in the void, and as such is favored as a means of vindication.

Courtship and marriage are treated with a laissez-faire hand, and so long as the partners are both of pure blood, then there is typically no protocol or intervention on behalf of the patriarch. The rearing of children is a communal affair, and they are typically taken from their parents at the age of six to be brought up by a godparent chosen by the patriarch of the house, believing it to help seed the callous and militant Ravexi outlook on life. Not all members of the House are of the blood, and the Ravexi have been known to absorb and integrate other clans into their fold through marriage, treaty or so forth.

PHYSIOGNOMY

The House of Ravexi are known for their homogenous appearance, the result of a stringent policy of purity of blood, of which they pride themselves for their pedigree as pureborn Dark Elves so far as history is recorded. Ravexis are recognized by two features -- their eyes, which are almost always a stark, sanguine crimson, and their hair, which is as black as ebony. Ravexi skin-tones range in the lighter, more ashy and grey tones found amongst the Dark Elves. The Ravexi are very much dedicated to martial tradition, and in line with their kin, tend to be on the more robust side physically, given to a proclivity for physical training, internal-familial competition, spartan lifestyle and selectiveness in marital pairings.

OOC - JOINING RAVEXI

Joining Ravexi is a simple process. To play a blood member of the family, express interest with a PM to my inbox, or @AntonVoron - additionally, House Ravexi accepts adoptees (so long as they are pure Dark Elves and mesh well with the group) and this avenue of entry can be discussed in the same way OOCly, or be approached in roleplay by seeking out the family in Renelia.
