Response to Alisa's "Thoughts on Redemption"

To Initiate Alisa,

These questions you pose in the beginning are quite good. We indeed should be thorough and we should indeed seek their redemption.

However, Redemption is not something that we will force on those of the blind - and those who have renounced the light will not be given quarter should they choose not to repent. Those will die in their darkness. Those blind to the light have little reason for any practice to be performed on them past the way of telling them of our father on high. There - that is the correct way to have someone redeem themselves without forcing them to, but if they already were shown the light. Well, there is only so much that can be done as you describe.

All practitioners of the magic arts have not only let, but ushered in, a vast quantity of taint into their very soul. There is little to do but try to rid them of their pact, but should that fail there is only the Mercy. Godlessness is a pure rejection of there being something more - of there being something to save them all from times of peril despite there being evidence, and truths, that show that there are indeed Gods, If not just the Allfather. For his very flames are evidence to his existence. And thus those godless are the most blind of all - So blind in fact that they must be dark within. I let that mage go as an experiment to see if a mage, or a godless man, has their own choice to rid themselves of such plague on their own terms. Within the coming time I fully wish to send a small envoy of men to see what has become of him. Whether my hypothesis on self-repentance concerning the godless is correct or not we shall see. And if they are incorrect, well, We must rid his pacts with the Olde Gods for him. Those who ramble false accusations only serve to derail the tenet of spreading the faith, and you are correct, they must be purged should they be averse to redeeming themselves. There is little else to add for the other two.

Beheading the corrupted ones? That sounds like something the peasantry would do as to leave the corpse to rot and fester - a wandering soul left behind; a blight to pervert nature and the land. Even a mere peasant is able to burn a body and release the soul whether it be corrupted or not. We leave it up to the Allfathers judgement for we are not always the best of judges. Even the most vile of flesh might have a chance at redemption in the Allfathers eye. Leaving the corpse to rot or trap it within an aurum coffin has only been held to those traitors of the faith at a high degree - such as Vladimyr Rosik, whose fate was to be that, but whose body was burned in the night by someone with enough Mercy for the man. We call the Allfathers mercy this, the pyres on which evil burns, because it is exactly that. A mercy. To free the corrupted soul and give it a chance at new life under the Allfather’s radiance.

I will say nothing on this last paragraph - for they are not necessarily wrong. Some even right to my mind. However it is my own belief that all those deserving of the Allfather’s mercy and past should be given it - for, again, it is a mercy to send them to the Allfather and we will not be seeing them prowl our land again should we send them to him. You say the pyre is too kind an end for the abomination and most sinful? I argue that you are wrong. If found to be that they are guilty of these crimes within the Allfather’s heart - perhaps it was not a mercy to send them to him. For they will experience a pain, no, a fate worse than a mere beheading.

In summary, Each thing is a case by case instance and is left to us to figure out. Many corrupted beings are worthy of the pyre and many are not. However, simple beheading does not seem rightly for the purification of an abomination or any agents of the long dark. Otherwise, you have done well to express your ideas surrounding the subject.
