Letter to Joseph Clement de Sarkozy

[!] A letter arrives to Joseph Clement de Sarkozy’s office as he prepares for trial.

Your Excellency,

As you requested, I looked over the documentation which your office provided. I find that while we cannot allow you to prohibit Cardinal Ves from accessing his diocese in Ves, it is the crown’s prerogative to prevent him from entering their other dominions. With the exception that Boniface is permitted into the Holy See to attend meetings of the Synod called by the High Pontiff or Vice-Chancellor, we otherwise find no ecclesiastical impediment to limiting his access to Helena.

However, I would counsel you to be sparing in your use of this authority, and to recall that use of excessive force against a cardinal may incur excommunication. Please advise your guards of this. Exalted Siegmund established the offices of the Emperor and the High Pontiff as “two in harmony, like unto Evaristus and Clement”. We must strive for accord between our authorities whenever possible.

Your fellow servant of GOD,

James II
