The First Golem

A body of five blocks of stone,

Ten ingots of iron for the bone.

A heart of gold, and also find,

The sand of souls to form the mind.

For nerves ten lengths of redstone wire,

Then forge new life in blacksmith's fire.

As the Ascended Hiebe chanted those words deep in the lava filled caverns below the Braveaxe Manor, the Grand Mastersmith of the Dwarves, Gotrek Firemane, laboured away at the great anvil. Slowly the body started to take shape. In went the iron bones, the soul sand, the redstone nerves and the heart of solid mage gold. At the moment Hiebe spoke the final line, Gotrek brought the hammer down on the golem's heart, and the stone form came to life. It sat up on the anvil upon which it was crafted, then stood up, a full eight feet in height. It looked down at the four dwarves before it. Eventually its eyes found Gotrek, and it spoke its first words.

"CRE-A-TOR?"

Gotrek looked uncertainly to the dwarf that had brought them all there, Thorik Braveaxe. The dwarf stepped forward. If he feared the huge stone monstrosity they had created, he did not show it.

"Aye, we dwarves are ye creators. I got ye made," he declared, gesturing to the old parchment on which the golem plans and spells were written, "Gotrek built ye," he said, gesturing towards the blacksmith, "and Hiebe here came in with te' magic bit." The huge golem continued looking at Gotrek.

"CRE-A-TOR?"

"Ye," said Gotrek, his confidence recovered, "I be your creator. You protect dwarves and serve the Braveaxes, that's why we made you."

"BRAVE-AXE?" said the golem. "WHAT IS BRAVE-AXE?"

"That would be me and me nephew 'ere," said Thorik, gesturing towards Chaecus Braveaxe, who had been silent since he came down into the firepit in which the golem was forged. "It is us ye are made to serve and protect."

"PRO-TECT DWARVES. SERVE BRAVE-AXES."

And thus the dwarves created the first golem in Aegis, a combination of Thorik's knowledge, Hiebe's magic and Gotrek's craftsmanship. News soon spread to Kal'Urguan about the creature, and from there, to the rest of Aegis. Thorik kept hold of the knowledge of how to make a golem, for in the wrong hands, that was dangerous information indeed.

In the depths of Braveaxe Manor, the remains of the golem stir. Powered by the gold from the Braveaxe axe built into its back, the 'carcass' begins to move. To search. To gather parts.

To rebuild...
