War: the thing that we sadly all know of, that one thing that destroys a massive amount of lives on a small amount of time.

 

War has been a thing for ages and should be considered a last resort when diplomacy seems to be lost, as was the teaching of the Church with Ven. John I’s Encyclical Pacem in Terris.

 

War seperates men from women, most of them not even knowing if they will meet one another again.

 

War destroys countries, nations and cultures and leaves a big mark in both the cultural process and the landscape by burning buildings, another thing that happens a lot is fights within noble houses due to one siding with another.

Obviously war is a bad thing, yet it depends on the casus belli of the war.
You see, sometimes wars must be fought to accomplish the ultimate goal or to defend something you must protect. This view is supported in the Scrolls, for example in Gospel 2:22-25 Exalted Owyn clearly served in the army, so clearly war isn’t wrong in all cases.

 

As an example, The Schism War: A bunch of heretical rebels decided to take up arms against the Church while being based at Vanderfell, then the Church had to fight back of course! So they rallied their allies and crushed the rebels at the battle at Milvian bridge after the rebels decided to ignore the offer of peace from the current High Pontiff, Saint Daniel the Reader. Daniel’s offer, in the Second Golden Bull of Dibley, shows he used the war as a last resort, when his offer of peace had failed.

 

To summarise, war has mostly ended up with losses for both sides and therefore it should be avoided at all costs, yet it should still be able to be used as a last resort when all other options have run out. Let us pray, then, for peace in our time, but the willingness to fight to defend what is right if needed. Saint Daniel, pray for us.
