Urahra 5781 Share Posted July 7, 2020 From the Desk of Greetings to the art and theater lovers of Oren, Art is the surest marker of an accelerated and modern society. For it is only when all our earthly needs are fully satiated that we have the capacity for creating works of beauty. Art is, in fact, crafted to meet the highest of human needs – the need for self-reflection, actualization, and deeper meaning. It is through art that we might interpret and make sense of an otherwise chaotic and oftentimes senseless world. It is unfortunate, perhaps, that the creators of these most critical and necessary of works are beholden to their earthly needs. Would that I were a spectral form without need of food, sleep, or water, I would devote my every waking moment to enriching Oren’s literary tradition. Alas, I am but human. And a human being has certain requirements for existence, without which we would surely and swiftly perish in agony. In short, I need money. My idiot husband decided to run out and leave me high and dry. Sending much love to you in the midst of your ongoing midlife crisis, Mr. La Fleur, wherever you may be. May you find your deeper meaning in the arms of whatever prostitute you are patronizing today, my dear. Ah, love is a many splendored thing, is it not? But enough of this foolery. I am offering commissions to any literature lovers who longs to see their names in print and their likeness portrayed on the stage. My genres of choice tend to be historical, romantic, or tragic – but a starving artist cannot afford to be picky. Commissions of any length and any subject will be accepted. When it comes to prices, I am willing to negotiate. Do your part to keep an authoress out of the poorhouse, won’t you, my dears? I would be much obliged. And if there are any individuals of wealth and means out there who would like to offer shelter and succor to a struggling artist, perhaps in the form of an ongoing patronage, why... I am at your command, my lord or lady. You need but give the word and I am at your dear disposal. Please find my contact information attached to this flyer. As a note, I should prefer to stay within the confines of our most beloved Orenia, for I haven’t won a Petrine Laurel yet. And nothing takes the sting out of an unfaithful spouse quite like the highest literary honor in the Empire. Signed, OOC: Read her plays here. Contact me on the forums if you’d like to commission a work from Ms. La Fleur or become her patron!
Bisscy 64 Share Posted July 7, 2020 Spoiler I am an idiot and sleep deprived. Not noticing the yellow text I read this as a ooc post and was just left wondering.
Urahra 5781 Author Share Posted July 7, 2020 OOC: Aw geez. Maybe my title needs to be edited then lmao. Nah, I’m looking to set up an artist-patron relationship in character because I think that’d be an interesting dynamic to explore. This character is a playwright but... well, y’know. Hard to make money as an artiste. So I’m hoping to find someone who’d like to give this somewhat grumpy and sarcastic playwright a place to stay. And in exchange maybe she’ll write a play glorifying your ancestors or whatever lol. If you’re not interested in plays, she might also make an interesting garden decoration. Garden hermits were fashionable in the 18th century.

She cracks the wax seal on the letter with her thumbnail – only to be surprised when a sum of 750 marks suddenly falls out onto her lap. She gathers the money in her unsteady, burn-scarred hands and counts it out on the writing desk in front of her before glancing back at the letter. “Haaaa. Well, well. I am certainly not one to turn down free money when it’s offered,” she chuckles before folding the marks and sliding them into her wallet. Taking up her quill, she writes back – Spoiler Your Lordship – I am most honored by your charitable donation and I will assuredly include you in my prayers tonight. Blessings on you for being a patron to the arts. I am the sort of woman who believes that one good turn deserves another. An eye for an eye, as they say, except in perhaps a more positive sense. Should you have need of a favor and I might be able to provide, let me know. For example, you need help writing an apology letter to your wife after you forgot your anniversary or something of that nature. I’m happy to offer drafting and editing services in addition to commissions. Do keep in touch. Signed,
louislxix 3198 Share Posted July 7, 2020 George Dubois sat alone in his study, narrowing his eyes as he carefully read through the missive. A slight smile spreading across his lips as he came toward the end, reminiscing of his youth when he once wanted to be more involved with the arts, yet it never came to be. The young man dipped his quill into a pot of ink and soon after began to write on a piece of parchment, falling short as halfway through he raised from his seat, discarding the letter aside. ”I should speak with the others at Varoche palace, see if we can offer our patronage.” He would mutter prior to make his way toward the door, wrapping a coat around himself before venturing outside.
