[!] You find a simple book made of cheap leather. If one were to open the book they would read:

Verokgalat What We Know, Disection and Annalysis

Written by Karl Blackroot

[!] Inside there lie some pages of notes coopilated into the book. The pages are divided into categories and they read as follows:

Preamble:
This document describes the dissection process of a verokgalat, otherwise known in the common tongue as winged screamer. The creature was defeated by a hunting party of Hefrumm, left there for two years, allowing for decomposition to destroy a lot of information that could have been achieved.

[!] Depiction of a verokgalat

Key Information about the specie:
The verokgalat is of the same family as the crow and the raven. Gigantic compared to its cousins the verokgalat is 10 feet tall and has a wingspan exceeding 12 feet. As proven in the times of the Confederation of Hammers, the verokgalat is in fact, passive and will not attack unless provoked.

Key Information about the specimen:
This verokgalat attacked unprovoked, seemed to have been in pain, and could have theoretically killed itself.

This dissection was presentiated and achieved by:
Karl Blackroot, Beorn Cottonwood, Thorin Treebeard, Aghuid Ireheart, and Brynaelda Grandaxe.

Dissection:
The beak was removed by Aghuid Ireheart.

The beak broke like an egg. It showed clear signs of decomposition.

The wings were removed and separately analyzed.

The blood coming out from the wings was black and rotten.

The wings were cleaned.

Wings showed odd markings on the bone.
Causes could be magic or from decomposition staining the bone in a peculiar way.

Aghuid  wiped the blood on his sword on a piece of wood.

Nothing happened to the wood.

Beorn took a sample of the blood.

The Torso was analyzed.

It seemed stiff and like the rest of the creature; rotten.

The Torso was opened by creating a Y incision starting from the wings.

The stomach was bloated with what seemed like pointy materials trying to get out.

Aghuid threw his sword at the stomach causing it to spew out digested organs and body parts.

One of the body parts was a bearded head in the late stages of decomposition. The head was kept for scientific purposes.

The creature’s remains were collected and carried to Hefrumm where its pieces can serve the village.

NOTE: The verokgalat showed clear signs of pain and plunged into the Hefrumm hunting party killing itself with the buildings of the fortress.

Conclusion of the autopsy of the Verokgalat:
The autopsy could have been more beneficial if the corpse was preserved to avoid the decomposition. However, the autopsy was not a failure and things of note have been discovered:

Based on the size and features of the skulls found one can assess that they are dwarven. Since we have no news of the recent disappearance of male dwarves in the continent, it can be assumed that we are not alone. It is possible this creature for some reason flew across continents, perhaps it was scared away from its territory and the dead individuals inside the creature are fallen hunters.

The carvings in the bone show clear markings. If they come from the process of decomposition of the body it must not be a big deal. However, if the markings are magical in origin there could be a possibility that this creature was persuaded in some form to attack us or that it was a failed experiment. I request the help of the Remembrancers to see if the markings are in fact symbols of some kind.
