The night would be fearlessly cold, whispering secrets into the girls head from her bedroom window. The girl adorned in light blue fabrics and a paper crown would blow out her candle throwing the room into the pitch blackness of night. Emma was once again sleeping under a new roof, it seemed she had a new set of sheets every month. Falling back onto a bed that she knew would never belong to her.

Outstretching a hand above her head. Her eyes strained to see the smaller details of blood and mud under the otherwise perfectly pedicured set of nails. Suddenly all the air inside her lungs would be knocked away from her grasp and the young girl was left with an odd sense of loneliness.

Soon after the loneliness came the worry, oh the dreaded worry. Sick and incriminating ideas flew through the girls head. But one pounding sentence would repeat itself more than the rest.

no one understands you, you're not like other people and will never be able to understand them

Gripping dramatically at her heart as her head switched violently between sadness and anger. Like a light switch that just couldn’t make up its mind. And like a light switch when it is flickered too many times too quickly, she short-circuited.

Emma shot up out of her bed and let out an ear-piercing cry from her bedroom window. Tears formed at the girl's eyes as she continued to scream until the only thing left inside of her lungs were rocks.

She made sure her brother and sister knew the pain she suffered from as if it were her only solace. Nothing seemed to save the girl from her own mind. Not food, nor water, nor sleep. Even in her sleep she felt the poundings of the world outside.

Nothing could touch a burning flame like herself, but she was too young to know this. Too young to understand. Her mother left, and shortly after her aunt. Then her father. All figured she looked up to disappear through mere letters. They left meaningless gifts and notes which she had burned or thrown away.

Though no tears fell down her face, the kindling of sadness allowed her anger to only burn hotter. Stumbling from her bed the crazed girl put on blood-soaked boots and her riding jacket. Quietly escaping the engulfing walls of the carrington home.

She traveled out behind the home into the rose fields beyond. Looking up at the stars as she fell down onto her knees in front of a rock. The rock she lifted and removed from it’s placement. Revealing letters she had hidden from her family.

Emma would shuffle through the letters, these were her one source of tranquility. Her one hope for happier days and lighter nights. Clutching them to her heart as she fell back on the field. Her eyes dull as all the emotion seemed to seep from her head. Then soon her consciousness.

Her dreams were filled with fluffy white clouds that turned sour and stormed over the ocean. On the other side of the most dangerous ocean the girl had seen was a small person of male standing. She squinted trying to make out the figure before she was once again awake.

Turning in her sheets and looking outside to her window. Her first thought of the day was:

The sun is bright.
