After Anessén Ka’uhane received the brown eagle tattoo on his torso and the warrior tattoo over his face, he was told about this tradition that was lost in time. A test to receive Nemglan’s blessing, in order for an elf of the Seed to earn the rights and privileges of a warrior.

The Tahorran realized that he did not go through the trial of a warrior, and yet he received the markings. Time flowed and Anessén would not stop praying for Nemglan’s blessing before each salmon run, before each whale hunt and before each battle. He showed bravery in each of these and finally Nemglan decided to lower one of her children, to put them on Anessén’s path.

The day she decided to test Anessén, it started with the sky clear but for a storm coming from the North. Anessén would find himself by Nemglan’s Shrine, the flames of the fire dancing with the wind as he was on his knees with his head bowed and his eyes closed. His hands laying over his thighs while praying in elvish and a hunting spear resting between himself and the fire.

“Nemglan ito kae illereh.....narnacaelen mariheiuhan'onn cerun.....larnan tennallaran'onn cerun.....llyth iheiuhisul'ohn cerun”

As the words came out of his mouth, he extended his left hand to grab a bowl of orange paint. Dipping his right thumb on the liquid, and then sliding it over his forehead forming what would seem to be a bird with its wings extended before lowering the bowl. Once he finished painting and praying, he would raise his chin while his eyes open. Extending his arm he will grab the spear and then push himself up. His gaze would go to the sky, to the North, spotting the storm but not worrying as it seems to be far away.

And so his hunt would begin, heading SouthWest towards the dense woods between Urguan and Siramenor. With the spear being held tightly and the blade pointing downwards. Once he found himself by the tree line, he would take a deep breath and dive into the forest. His gaze dashing around to spot a prey, his ears flickering at the slightest sound. His feet prowling with soundless steps for what it could have been hours, stopping when he felt the first drop slip through the leaves and fall to his shoulder, the storm was faster than he thought.

And soon the first thunder could be heard trembling the air and the wind will start to rage as the rain strikes the ground. Anessén’s attention that was up in the sky, was now dragged down to the forest when he heard a bird shriek. Rapidly, he followed the desperate call until he found an eagle with a wing trapped below a fallen tree. The log was knocked by the strong winds and left the bird trapped. Anessén without thinking will jump to the rescue, crouching by the log’s side and, after hooking his hands below the tree, pulling it up to free the bird. The eagle would not move though it was not trapped anymore, and so Anessén would toss the log forward away from them and then dropped to his knees beside the bird.

“By the Aspects little one, bad luck you have…”

Anessén’s hand would gently slide below the bird, but it would bite his finger, leaving behind a cut and a lesson for Anessén. He would cover the bird’s eyes with a piece of cloth and then bandage his finger before grabbing the bird gently and laying it between his arm and torso, while he grabbed the spear with the free hand and headed back home.

Once back in Siramenor, Anessén would look around for Laetranis until he finally found him by the Tahorran Seed Hall. He would greet him and then show him the injured bird, a frown appearing on Laetranis' face and then Anessén's brother would ask the Tahorran to take care of it until the wounds were mended and it could fly free once more. Anessén accepted the task ahead and for the following days he would heal, feed, care and carry the eagle around. Unconsciously creating a bond with the bird that soon would be tested.

Days become weeks and the brown eagle would have healed. Anessén would walk towards the beach with Laetranis while holding the eagle in his hands. Anessén glanced down to the bird as he pulled back the hand laying on the bird’s back and then lifted the other hand where the eagle was resting. The brown eagle would open its wings and take off, rising to the sky and gliding while drawing some circles over the air before returning to Anessén and landing over his uncovered shoulder, without digging its claws on his skin. Anessén glanced back at Laetranis with a raised brow.

“It seems Nemglan has blessed you with a companion Mal’onn”

Laetranis would say as he clasps a hand on Anessén’s free shoulder to squeeze it gently. Anessén smiled warmly and nodded, however in his mind he knew this was not just a companion but the test he was looking for,  to gain Nemglan’s blessing.

He realised that the ancestors of the Tahorrans were against Nemglans’ blessing while taming the birds of prey. The ways of the Tamers of Birds, went against the ways of the Mani of Freedom and Thunder. The Princess of the birds of prey saw the kindness in Anessén's heart and she realized that this might be a new path, that this might be the time to let her children fly close to the mali'ame once more.

On that day, Anessén became the first Vihaiir'Metta.
