The praying Prince's mouth poured sand and dust, drowning the world he knew: the homeland with sun-marked banners, the King's corpse and his ruined city. All were lost within the lower chamber of a merciless hourglass. All but the Dragon, who flew far with his stolen crown, for Terror had prevailed over these bygone heroes.

But Courage remained. Whilst the words of the Archangel and his Champion had long been buried beneath the dunes, the spirit of His favoured persevered. The Dragon grew fat atop his purloined throne, and years later found the King's heirs assembled at his gates. When told to kneel their Lord - who carried tenacity in his step - screamed back for blood. The serpent ought to have been smote that day, but Malchediael's gifts were not enough in these erratic hands. For His guiding words were by now lost to time.

 

Directionless valour was warped into Wrath by these wayward children of the sun, and the imperious reptile survived. The beast was wounded and chased from its throne by those faithful to their martyrdom, leaving nought but shattered nation bathed in fire, then frost. For the Dragon was cunning, and the scars of the war against it left mankind crippled and unsightly. The crown returned atop its scaled head within mere decades thereafter. Fear was destined reconquer these intrepid inheritors as they worked in the darkness of night, as the illuminating words of the Archangel remained entombed in the desert.
