12th of Owyn's Flame, 1901

To Ser Lucien Ashford de Rouen,

Once received, let this letter be a formal witness to my resignation as your squire, and any vows acclimated during the course of its tenure. You have taught me to be a man of my own action. Thus, I will not have the experiences you have avowed me since my early youth to be rendered null by any higher polity than I or you. Nonetheless, the Archduchess you serve was right in any but one thing: I am not fit for chivalry.

I have become accustomed to the fact that there is a reason behind the circumstance of my birth. I was born the bastard of the Princess of Savoy. I was not destined for greatness.

As a babe, I was delivered to the monastery of St. Foltest because the Lord has destined me to spread the word of his Prophet Owyn. My hand cannot be fit for both a sword and gospel. That right was only resolved to Exalted Owyn. In front of him, I am nothing.

I imagine that my name will not be placed in the annals of history for conquest, servitude, or knighthood, like the great Esheveurd before us. But I hope to make you proud. Where there is ambition, there is the clemency of the Lord, and I will be its steward and shepherd. Despite no longer serving you through the sword, I hope to do the same with the strength of the cross of the Lorraine.

God be with you always,

Adelric

Ser Lucien would be inside his fathers keep, the letter laid on the table. He'd wipe a tear, happily reminiscing about the past when he got away with literally everything.
