Issued by the

COUNTY OF AYR

On the 16th day of Tov ag Yermey of 538 E.S.

TO THE PEOPLE OF THE MOUNTAINS AND THE LAKES,

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Garen Baruch, the once Duke of Valwyck, and now Count of Ayr.

In his youth, Garen had wished to be a knight, briefly attaining the rank through his service throughout the war in the Midlands. Fighting by the Grand Prince Ivan’s side, the Royal saw it fit to knight the young man. Garen served as a knight for a few years, before the death of his brother and heir to the House and the Duchy. Reluctantly, Garen took on the mantle, and sought to lay down the foundations for his home, Valwyck. Many years passed, where one would rarely see Garen outside of the Westerwald, and eventually his keep had been completed. It is uncertain as to why it was, but the Duke sought to seclude himself from his people, and rarely stepped outside of the Westerwald until his death. He leaves behind his heir, Maira Baruch, and her brothers and sisters.

BY MOUNTAIN, RIVER, AND COAL,

Her Ladyship, Maira Baruch, Countess of Ayr, Viscountess of Voron, Baroness of Laval and Riveryn, Lady of Jorenstadt, Guardian of the Hanseti Coast

[!]

The deaths seemed to be mounting up as the city showed signs of mourning everywhere, the young marshal sighed as he learned the news of the tragic passing, he stood looking out his window as a singular tear emerged from his eye.

"May the Seven Skies welcome you, brother, your service is done"

He would murmur, as he wiped the tear away signing the Lorraine across his body he would nod once before moving to stay steadfast in the light of this news, the man could not falter, not now and not ever.

The news came to settle some form of shock into Malcolm. He knew it was coming. Death was inevitably chasing at his families heels. Yet, even still. It ached. He thought of the differences that would now forever be unresolved between his father and eldest sister. He thought back to happier times, when they were all together.

Paper crumpled in his hand, as tears ached down his face. A door was slammed, as he retreated into the clinics supply closet. Dropping back against the wall, and wailing.

He felt more alone, then ever.

The missive was brought before the scarred and battle-hardened Holy Grandmaster, and even through all the death he's seen, could not help but shed a tear for the man he would once call a brother. Secluding himself to his room, he withdrew the ceremonial dirk that Garen had given him to signify his rank as the head of the grey-guard. He traced his fingers along the etching, recounting the memories they had together.
"Perhaps I should travel to Valwyck more often.." he thought to himself now realizing how distant he had been from his family.

"It's too late to regret it, I suppose."

The publication of the missive was a cold one. Maira consulted none of her siblings for the matter, and neither did she comfort them. It was a difficult thing to mourn for her father; much of it came as regret, for the hatred which had loomed over their relationship. The sadness would come, she was sure. An awkward, repentant sadness which would overwhelm whatever sembleance of conflict the two had in the time of his life.
